Dani Carvajal Drops Bombshell About His Next Club That Could Shatter Real Madrid Fans' Hearts

Dani Carvajal has not dismissed the possibility of joining another club in Spain, appearing to walk back a pledge he had previously made regarding his future.

The 34-year-old made his 451st and last appearance for Real Madrid in the season finale against Athletic Club on May 23, receiving a guard of honor from his teammates as part of an emotional farewell.

No player in football history has claimed more Champions League titles than Carvajal's six, and he departs as a true Madrid legend.

Ahead of the outgoing club captain's final match, Álvaro Arbeloa suggested the right back "might be the most important academy product in the history of the club."

Among the flood of social media tributes to Carvajal, Vinicius Jr referred to his former teammate as "the best fullback ever," while Sergio Ramos described him as a "true reflection of what Madridismo is."

Carvajal himself referred to Real Madrid as the club of "his life" in his own post—and indeed, across a 14-year senior career, he has spent only one season away from Los Blancos.

The experienced right back is now in search of just his third professional club, as he becomes a free agent this summer.

Speaking in 2024, Carvajal had insisted he would not continue playing in Europe once his time at Real Madrid came to a close. However, two years later, he appears to have a different perspective on his options.

When asked by El Chiringuito about his next steps, he said: "Now I'll enjoy the summer a bit, but I'll keep playing, that's certain for me. We'll see what the best options are for me and my family, and based on that, I'll make the decision."

When asked whether he would like to remain in Spain, Carvajal replied: "I don't know. We'll decide that together [as a family], with calm."

When pressed on Como and Qatar—two rumored destinations—he said: "I don't know. Right now, I'm open to all options and we're working on it."

Where Could Carvajal End Up?

As a club icon who has become inseparable from Madrid's modern era of success—Carvajal is the only player to have started all six of the club's most recent Champions League finals—it would be a strange sight for many to see the right back wearing another team's jersey, let alone that of a rival Spanish side.

Back in 2024, Carvajal acknowledged that his post-Madrid options were "reduced," and he has much to weigh up given the current global climate.

Both the Saudi Pro League and Qatar—where his brother-in-law Joselu spent the last two seasons—have become more complex destinations due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Joselu is expected to depart Stars League club Al Gharafa this summer.

Major League Soccer and the Turkish Süper Lig are among the more plausible potential destinations, should Carvajal choose to honor his earlier commitment to not staying in Spain. In recent days, several Serie A clubs have also been linked with a move for the veteran defender.
