David Beckham Stunned by Jordi Alba's Shocking Retirement Announcement

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham composed a heartfelt tribute to the "remarkable" Jordi Alba, following the defender's stunning announcement of his upcoming retirement.

Just five months prior, Alba had signed a two-year contract extension with Inter Miami, committing his services to the Herons until the 2027 campaign. However, the celebrated left-back has ultimately chosen to conclude his playing career at the close of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.

This unexpected announcement sparked reactions from football's most prominent figures, including Lionel Messi and subsequently, Beckham. The former Manchester United icon utilized social media to share a touching tribute to Alba.

"Jordi, congratulations on a very special career," Beckham posted on Instagram. "It's been such a privilege to have you wear the pink of Miami these past few seasons.

"An incredible player whose always conducted themselves with great dignity and professionalism on and off the field and with a big smile... we will always be grateful to you and your beautiful family for joining us on our special journey.

"We will miss you my friend," Beckham concluded.

Alba transferred to Miami in 2023 and rapidly established himself as one of MLS's premier fullbacks. The 36-year-old contributed to the Herons' Leagues Cup triumph that same year and subsequently their Supporters' Shield victory the following campaign.

These two championships added to the 20 additional accolades Alba accumulated during his illustrious tenure with Barcelona and Spain.

Inter Miami will not only bid farewell to Alba at season's end, but must also part ways with Sergio Busquets. The midfielder revealed his retirement plans in September, leaving Javier Mascherano without two of his most reliable and accomplished players for the future.

During this campaign alone, Alba has featured in 44 matches across all tournaments, contributing seven goals and 11 assists. Busquets, on the other hand, has registered 48 appearances alongside 10 assists.

While Inter Miami may still have the remainder of the regular season and MLS Cup playoffs ahead, the organization is already developing a replacement strategy for Alba. The Herons are allegedly in discussions to acquire former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilón as a free agent.
