After making Mikel Arteta the highest-paid manager in the Premier League, reports indicate Arsenal are nearing a deal that would see midfielder Declan Rice become the club's top earner.
Arteta secured an annual salary of £20 million ($26.4 million) with the new contract unveiled on Wednesday, as Gunners executives look to reward those who have played a key role in Arsenal's return to the upper echelons of European football.
Rice has been especially vital to Arsenal's ascent in English football, with his consistent availability surpassing that of many of his fellow squad members. In just over three complete seasons in north London, Rice has accumulated 165 appearances across all competitions—with a large portion of those seeing him play the full 90 minutes.
BBC Sport reports that the England international is on the verge of signing a new deal that will feature a substantial pay rise from his current wages. He is believed to currently earn £200,000 ($264,000) per week at the Emirates, with that figure expected to jump to £350,000 ($462,000) once the contract is officially signed.
