Denmark Boss Delivers Scathing Attack on Man United's Treatment of Rasmus Hojlund
Denmark's head coach Brian Riemer has dismissed claims that Rasmus Højlund wasn't suited to Premier League football, arguing that his current excellent form stems from being part of a "properly functioning squad".
Højlund seems to be another player thriving after leaving Manchester United, with the Red Devils agreeing to loan their £72 million ($96 million) striker to Napoli during the summer transfer window on an initial temporary deal that contains a conditional requirement to complete a permanent transfer next summer for slightly more than half that amount.
The 22-year-old forward has netted four times in his opening six appearances for Napoli and found the back of the net twice for Denmark in Thursday's comprehensive 6–0 victory over Belarus, where he also contributed an assist for good measure.
Such prolific goalscoring was seldom witnessed during Højlund's stint at United, but Denmark's manager Riemer was quick to blame the Red Devils for his previous struggles.
"I believe Rasmus possesses the ability for both [the Premier League and Serie A], without question," he declared.

"Is he compatible with Italian football? Absolutely. There was no question about that, since he had already demonstrated that. But that doesn't indicate he's incompatible with English football. Quite the opposite, I would almost argue.
"The reality that he is now part of a properly functioning squad and has teammates around him who take satisfaction in performing well for others contributes to improving the results for a striker like Rasmus, who requires proper service. This matters more than which division you compete in."
Riemer's statements mirror a recent assertion from Højlund himself. The Danish player rejected having modified anything about his approach after his exit from Old Trafford, maintaining he is simply "fulfilling his role".
Højlund's permanent transfer to Naples is anticipated to be activated quite easily this season as it is understood to be linked to Napoli's qualification for next season's Champions League. The current Serie A titleholders lead the table after six matches.
Even if Antonio Conte's team unexpectedly falls out of the European qualification spots, Højlund has already indicated he is preparing for an extended future with Napoli.
