Brighton & Hove Albion's preseason preparations have been thrown into chaos, with U.S. President Donald Trump and several other world leaders bearing some responsibility for the disruption.
The Seagulls had planned to hold their training camp this week in the French town of Evian-les-Bains, utilizing pitches near the Hotel Royal Resort, where the squad was due to be accommodated. However, when a small advance party of Brighton staff arrived to get the facilities ready, they were shocked to find the pitches had been completely torn up and left in an unusable state, according to a report from The Athletic.
President Trump, French president Emmanuel Macron, and former U.K. prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, along with various other world leaders, had used the pitches as helicopter landing zones ahead of last month's three-day Group of Seven (G7) summit held in the town—an annual informal gathering of leading democracies, including France, Italy, Germany, the U.K., the U.S., Japan, and Canada—convened to address global geopolitical matters.
Consequently, Brighton have been compelled to revise their preseason training arrangements ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off on Aug. 21.

Fabian Hürzeler's squad stayed at Brighton's Lancing, West Sussex training base on Friday, but are set to fly out this weekend to a replacement camp in Austria.
The club was forced to call off Saturday's friendly against French Ligue 2 side FC Annecy, though the subsequent behind-closed-doors friendly against Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg remains on schedule for Aug. 1.

Brighton have two additional friendlies lined up in early August—home fixtures against Roma and Bologna on Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, respectively—before competitive action gets underway. Their Premier League campaign opens against Aston Villa on Aug. 23 at the Amex Stadium.
Brighton wrapped up last season in eighth place, securing a spot in the UEFA Conference League.
