Inter Miami are hungry for revenge this summer, as their Leagues Cup run begins against Liga MX side Atlético de San Luis on Wednesday.

Miami made it back to the final the following year, but were beaten by the Seattle Sounders. Unsavory incidents unfolded after the final whistle, and consequently, a sharp-form Luis Suárez will be absent from this year's tournament entirely. He was handed a six-game Leagues Cup ban for spitting at a Sounders staff member.
San Luis were founded just 13 years ago, forging a partnership with Atlético Madrid in 2017. They earned promotion to the top division of Mexican soccer two years later and have maintained top-flight status ever since.
Their track record in this competition remains underwhelming, though there were at least some encouraging signs in 2025 following consecutive group-stage eliminations.

Under the revised Leagues Cup format introduced last year, Inter Miami will face two additional Liga MX clubs during the league phase.
Following Wednesday's clash, the Herons square off against Monterrey — who participated in the 2025 Club World Cup — on Saturday, Aug. 8, before welcoming Club León the following Wednesday.
The four MLS clubs that collect the most points across their three matches will progress to the quarterfinals, where they will meet a Liga MX opponent in the last eight.
