Eddie Howe Breaks Silence on Liverpool's Pursuit of Star Striker Alexander Isak

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe confirmed that the Magpies have yet to receive an official bid for highly-coveted Liverpool target Alexander Isak.

The Premier League title holders were allegedly poised to submit a record-shattering offer for Isak worth approximately £120 million ($160 million) during mid-July. After Newcastle firmly stated their star striker was not available for transfer, Liverpool proceeded to acquire Hugo Ekitiké. Nevertheless, reports now suggest that Isak's desire to depart has compelled the Magpies to contemplate an unwilling departure.

Howe has consistently expressed his intention to retain Isak, but addressed transfer speculation for the first time. "He remains our player," the Newcastle manager informed reporters on Tuesday. "He's under contract with us. We maintain some control over his future. I'd prefer to think all options remain open to us.

"My preference is for him to remain, though that's not entirely within my authority. We haven't received an official bid for Alex from any team."

Should Liverpool formally submit an offer, it would need to surpass the British transfer record established by Florian Wirtz's Anfield move last month. Various sources indicate that approximately £150 million ($199.9 million) might be necessary to complete a transaction for the 25-year-old striker.

"This will be a crucial period for us. There's much to consider," Howe cautioned. "I believe we shouldn't deviate from our established approach during transfer windows and continue doing what benefits the club strategically. That philosophy must remain unchanged."

Apart from Isak's potential exit, Newcastle are equally focused on incoming signings. Anthony Elanga's transfer from Nottingham Forest represents the sole major addition to Howe's roster before a campaign that will include Champions League commitments. The Magpies have openly failed to secure several priority targets this summer, causing visible disappointment for Howe.

"When the suitable player isn't available at the correct valuation, we cannot complete transactions," the English manager explained with resignation. "All elements must align properly. Naturally, we're seeking to enhance the squad and add both depth and quality to identified positions. Hopefully we can finalize some agreements."
