El Clasico Set to Crown La Liga Champions as Barcelona and Real Madrid Battle for Ultimate Glory

El Clasico Set to Crown La Liga Champions as Barcelona and Real Madrid Battle for Ultimate Glory

The scene is prepared for the crucial third Clásico of the 2025–26 campaign: Barcelona will welcome Real Madrid on Sunday, May 10.

This unmissable showdown remains seven weeks in the future, but excitement is already mounting for football's greatest rivalry. Similar to the previous campaign, the Clásico winner will likely secure the La Liga championship; unless major changes occur before the match, three additional points for Barcelona would virtually seal their title retention, while a Los Blancos victory could instead drive them to domestic success.

Each side has already beaten the other this campaign—Real Madrid overcame Barcelona 2–1 in La Liga during October, then the Catalans earned a 3–2 victory to claim the Spanish Cup in January—but May's winner will have the final word while the entire globe observes.

The eagerly awaited El Clásico will commence at 9 p.m. local time. The encounter will begin at 8 p.m. in the UK and 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT.

Real Madrid Gearing Up for Camp Nou Return

Real Madrid face not only the challenge of playing the crucial Clásico on the road, but they must do so at Camp Nou for the first time since the legendary stadium reopened during extensive ongoing reconstruction work.

Hansi Flick's squad has transformed their sacred venue into an impenetrable stronghold over the past four months. Barcelona have assembled a 14-match winning run at Camp Nou across all tournaments stretching back to November.

No Barcelona adversary in La Liga, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey has managed to claim points from the reigning Spanish titleholders at home, much less defeat them. However, that is precisely what Los Blancos must accomplish if they desire a shot at capturing the La Liga crown.

The 15-time European champions have struggled on the road throughout the season, but significant victories at Benfica, Celta Vigo and Manchester City during the past five weeks have given the squad renewed belief for matches in unwelcoming environments—though currently, no venue in Spain is more challenging than Camp Nou.

Barcelona Hoping to Replicate Spanish Super Cup Magic

Barcelona

With their supporters behind them, Barcelona will fancy their chances of achieving a positive outcome against Real Madrid on May 10. The defending Spanish champions can probably settle for a tie in the fixture, while Los Blancos require victory.

The home side will also be filled with assurance after overcoming their eternal rivals in the Spanish Super Cup final. Barcelona weren't at their peak that evening, surrendering leads on two occasions, but they still found a way to prevail thanks to Raphinha's decisive strike.

However, the team set to meet the Catalans will appear vastly different from the starting eleven in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During the Spanish Super Cup final, Xabi Alonso had to deploy Aurélien Tchouaméni at center back and Raúl Asencio at right back. Kylian Mbappé was also limited to a brief substitute appearance due to a knee problem.

Now revitalized under Arbeloa and significantly healthier, Real Madrid will present a far greater challenge for Barcelona ... though recent form still favors the current table-toppers as they have claimed five of the previous six Clásicos.
