England Unveils Bold 2026 World Cup Squad: Stars Selected, Shock Snubs Revealed

Following days of social media leaks, England head coach Thomas Tuchel has officially unveiled his 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.

With one of the most talented player pools in world football at his disposal, Tuchel faced the difficult task of trimming his selection down to just 26 players for this summer's tournament in North America, knowing that numerous high-profile names would inevitably be left behind.

No matter who Tuchel chose, disappointed England supporters were always going to be a certainty, and that's precisely how events unfolded in the days before the official announcement as news of omissions gradually surfaced on social media.

Nonetheless, Tuchel will now shift his attention to preparing his squad for their journey to the United States, Canada and Mexico. England is considered one of the frontrunners to make a deep run in this summer's competition, with a first World Cup triumph since 1966 not completely out of reach.

Here are the 26 players entrusted with bringing the iconic trophy back to England.

English supporters have long called for the kind of secrecy employed by other nations when it comes to squad announcements. Fans around the world have grown accustomed to watching dramatic reveal videos unveiling the 26 players bound for the World Cup, yet England never quite seems to follow suit.

In fact, on the morning of Tuchel's announcement, as many as 21 names had already been leaked to the press, with numerous players also confirmed as omissions. Harry Maguire even took to social media to express his shock at being left out, and the Manchester United centre-back's mother and brother also had the opportunity to voice their frustrations before the squad was officially announced.

While many have been left stunned by Tuchel's choice to leave Maguire out, there has also been considerable criticism directed at the 33-year-old for going public with his reaction before the official announcement was made.

Maguire is far from the only notable absentee from England's World Cup plans. Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been left out, though that call comes as less of a surprise given Tuchel's clear preference for other options in that position.

Attacking midfielders Cole Palmer of Chelsea and Phil Foden of Manchester City have both failed to make a strong enough case to Tuchel, while Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is another player who will be watching this summer's tournament from home.
