Enzo Fernandez Drops Bombshell About Troubling Chelsea Injury Setback
Enzo Fernández disclosed that he has been managing a knee injury for the last four months, which will now prevent him from joining Argentina's squad for their final two matches of 2025.
The central midfielder delivered one of his strongest displays this season during Chelsea's commanding 3–0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, the Argentine star confirmed post-match that he has pulled out of La Albiceleste's November international duty due to ongoing discomfort in his knee.
"I've been in discussions with the [national team] medical team regarding a knee issue I've been managing for four months," Fernández explained to ESPN. "We mutually agreed that I should use these two weeks for recovery, considering the crucial period approaching at season's end.
"The pain has been significant. Over the next two to three weeks, I'll focus on maximum recovery to return at full fitness for training and matches with my teammates."
Fernandez: Injury Has 'Worsened' in Recent Weeks

Fernández confirmed he's battling a "bone edema" that has caused him to endure considerable pain during matches over the past month.
"I've been managing bone edema that has deteriorated in recent weeks due to my heavy fixture schedule," Fernández explained.
"It's beneficial to have discussed this [with Argentina's medical team] and jointly determined this approach is optimal for my knee's wellbeing."
The Chelsea midfielder was previously forced to miss Argentina's October camp due to a comparable knee concern.
The 2022 World Cup winner has featured in 16 matches for Chelsea during the 2025–26 campaign and has already surpassed 1,000 minutes of playing time this season. He also contributed 78 minutes for Argentina during October's international window.
In total, Fernández has appeared in 51 matches across club and international duties in 2025. Chelsea's successful 2025 Club World Cup campaign also resulted in Fernández and his teammates having minimal opportunity for rest and rehabilitation between seasons.
