Enzo Maresca Breaks Silence on Manchester City Managerial Links

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has dismissed rumors linking him with a potential move to Manchester City as Pep Guardiola's successor, firmly stating he will "definitely" remain at Stamford Bridge next season.

Questions surrounding Maresca's Chelsea future were virtually non-existent until recently, but the Italian created uncertainty with mysterious remarks about feeling unsupported by people "in general." After declining to elaborate on these statements, various reports suggest Maresca was alluding to friction with co-owner Behdad Eghbali and co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

While Maresca reaffirmed his dedication to Chelsea following his original remarks, Thursday's news that City are considering the Italian as a possible successor to former associate Guardiola has renewed speculation that Maresca might not stay at Chelsea past next summer—when a performance evaluation has been long planned.

When questioned about the rumors and City connections, Maresca was unequivocal in his response.

"It has zero impact on me because I understand it's completely speculative," he emphasized. "And right now, there's no time for such matters.

"Primarily, because I'm contracted here until 2029 most likely. And my attention, as I've stated repeatedly, is solely on this club and I'm extremely proud to be here. But once again, it's pure speculation. A week ago I was linked with Italy, similarly with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know it's false.

Maresca: I Don't Care About Speculation

"Once more, I believe it's merely speculation. Now, it's crucial to comprehend why this story emerged. But that's not my responsibility, I'm completely indifferent. But again, it's just speculation. And I believe the players are concentrated on the Newcastle match which is an extremely important and challenging fixture."

Maresca maintained the same resolute stance when asked about his commitment to the club and whether he'll still be managing Chelsea next season.

"Definitely, yes," he confirmed.

"Again, I'm under contract until 2029, and this is speculation, completely. So I have nothing additional to say, because again, I don't focus on it. And if we keep discussing this, that suggests I'm paying attention to it. But I'm not concentrating on that. I'm solely focused on the Newcastle match. I'm focused on my responsibilities.

"Again, I signed an agreement last year through 2029. I'm satisfied with that, and nothing beyond that."

Maresca Clarifies State of Relationship With Owners

Despite Maresca's optimism, concerns about his relationship with ownership and sporting directors persist.

Inquiries regarding his squad rotation and tactical decisions are believed to be central to Maresca's concerns, along with frustration over his summer request for a new center-back to cover for injured Levi Colwill being overlooked.

Though Maresca maintains regular communication with his superiors, he admitted they haven't discussed his pointed remarks.

"We work in the same facility, so we discuss various matters," he clarified. "But regarding the Everton press conference, no.

"Completely [the relationship is good]."

Maresca concluded by requesting continued backing from fans, many of whom chanted his name during the recent 3–1 victory over Cardiff City.

"Simply to keep supporting the team as they have since I arrived at the club and previously," he stated. "And have faith in the process from the team, from the club, from everybody."
