Enzo Maresca Delivers Bold Challenge to Barcelona Before Blockbuster Champions League Showdown

Enzo Maresca expressed that Chelsea feel "optimistic" before their forthcoming Champions League encounter with Spanish title holders Barcelona.

The Blues came back from the November international pause with a comfortable 2–0 triumph over Burnley on Saturday courtesy of strikes from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández. This result stretched Chelsea's undefeated streak to five games in all tournaments.

With that Premier League fixture now behind them, Maresca's squad can turn their attention to their high-profile meeting with Barcelona. The Catalan side, who have netted 14 times in their previous four outings, are visiting Stamford Bridge for the first occasion since 2018.

The Spanish powerhouse represents the most challenging opponent for Chelsea thus far in their Champions League comeback, yet Maresca appears unfazed by Hansi Flick's talent-rich roster, spearheaded by Lamine Yamal.

"We feel confident, we're performing well," the Italian coach stated following Saturday's triumph at Turf Moor. "Naturally we can improve certain aspects, but securing the victory was crucial. We feel optimistic about Tuesday's encounter."

Chelsea will be missing Cole Palmer for this critical fixture; the England star suffered a toe injury in an unusual mishap at his residence, sidelining him for at least another three weeks.

Maresca Appeals to Chelsea Supporters Before Challenging Fixtures

Five days following the Blues' Champions League match against Barcelona, they face Arsenal at home to wrap up November. This showdown will feature the Premier League's leading two clubs in a contest that could significantly impact the championship race.

"We require our supporters for the upcoming two home fixtures. We experienced wonderful connection with them before and following the match [against Burnley]," the 45-year-old manager commented.

"I believe they can feel proud of the squad. We're in second place, [six] points behind the frontrunner, and we're delighted to experience these moments alongside them."

A victory for Chelsea over the Gunners would position the Club World Cup winners within reach of the summit before the festive period. Regarding the Champions League, three points versus Barcelona would probably propel the Blues to just beyond the top eight with three fixtures remaining in the league stage.
