Enzo Maresca Unveils Bold Transfer Strategy for Chelsea's Rising Star

Enzo Maresca has confirmed that he has no intention of parting ways with Josh Acheampong despite interest from multiple Champions League clubs.

The 19-year-old defender's situation appeared uncertain at the start of the previous campaign due to contract negotiations, but he has been given regular opportunities with Chelsea following the signing of a new deal in December.

The promising right-back has made 14 appearances for the first team, accumulating significant playing time throughout Chelsea's Europa Conference League campaign last season. He also completed the full 90 minutes in the recent 3-0 win against Espérance de Tunis during the FIFA Club World Cup.

Acheampong's performances have caught the attention of both Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United, yet Maresca remains adamant that the young defender belongs at Stamford Bridge.

"The teams you've referenced are interested in Josh, but our interest in him is equally strong," the Italian manager stated. "Every club desires quality players. My vision and strategy regarding Josh is crystal clear. I have great admiration for Josh and believe he has the potential to become an elite defender for this football club.

"The responsibility also falls on him to choose the appropriate moments for his development. We have an abundance of young talent here, including many gifted players in defensive positions, so I believe the optimal path for Josh involves staying with our squad, and I would be delighted if he remains with us."

Acheampong represents one of numerous promising young prospects at Chelsea, though he faces significant competition for team selection. Club skipper Reece James and Malo Gusto currently rank above him in the hierarchy, despite James frequently being deployed in midfield roles under Maresca's system.

However, Acheampong will get chances to demonstrate his abilities to Maresca in the upcoming season, as Chelsea appears determined to retain him without considering either a permanent transfer or loan arrangement.
