Enzo Maresca's Former Club Delivers Savage Social Media Blow to Chelsea Following Crushing Man Utd Defeat
Sevilla's official English X account delivered a brutal blow on Saturday night.
Following Chelsea's chaotic 2–1 loss at Manchester United, the Spanish La Liga club—where Blues manager Enzo Maresca previously played—used social media to expose the Premier League team's abysmal record at Old Trafford.
Using merely 17 words, Sevilla's social media team emphasized that they had secured a victory at United's home ground more recently than Chelsea by five years, with the London club failing to win at the Theatre of Dreams since 2013. Adding insult to injury, the post concluded: "We don't play in the Premier League."
Chelsea's woeful away form against United has aligned with a particularly troubling era for the Red Devils. Since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement 12 years ago, numerous clubs have finally broken their Old Trafford drought.
Teams including West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and—naturally—Sevilla have all celebrated victories at a stadium that continues to be Chelsea's nightmare destination. Ferguson was still managing when United last suffered a home defeat to the Blues in May 2013. In the following 13 encounters in Manchester, the results show six stalemates and seven United victories.
Sevilla, who secured a 2–1 triumph at Old Trafford in March 2018 to eliminate United from the Champions League last 16, were swift to mock Chelsea's struggles despite the clear connection to Maresca.
The former Italian playmaker spent four seasons with Sevilla from 2005–09, accumulating 141 matches, 21 strikes and five titles. Prior to meeting city rivals Real Betis in last summer's Conference League final, Maresca revealed his strong ties to the city.
"I met my wife in Seville, and she is from Seville," he explained. "My first son was born in Seville. I played four years for Sevilla, a big derby against Betis, and I scored a goal when we won a derby 1–0, so I know they don't love me!" Clearly, whoever runs Sevilla's English X account isn't particularly fond of Maresca either.
