Erik ten Hag Eyes Stunning Premier League Comeback as Top Clubs Circle

Wolverhampton Wanderers have allegedly targeted ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as a possible successor to the recently dismissed Vítor Pereira.

Wolves terminated their relationship with the 57-year-old coach on Sunday, following their 3–0 loss to Fulham the previous day. The team sits at the bottom of the Premier League table, still searching for their first victory in 2025–26—marking the second consecutive campaign where they've gone winless through their initial 10 league fixtures.

While Wolves are believed to be exploring a potential return for previous manager Gary O'Neil, The Athletic indicates Ten Hag is also under "consideration" as a candidate to replace Pereira.

The Dutch tactician remains without a club following his dismissal from Bayer Leverkusen in September, after overseeing merely two league matches with the German outfit.

Wolves have "explored internally" the prospect of bringing Ten Hag back to English football's top division. The 55-year-old formerly led Manchester United for almost two-and-a-half seasons before his departure last October, concluding a turbulent period with the record 20-time English champions.

Ten Hag's Man Utd Record

Although Ten Hag guided United to Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs in 2023 and 2024 respectively, his Manchester tenure was plagued by defensive frailties, erratic performances and a notably public dispute with veteran star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Dutch coach commanded the Red Devils for 850 days, supervising 128 fixtures across all tournaments.

Ten Hag achieved 70 victories, 23 stalemates and 35 defeats during his tenure at Old Trafford. Across the 85 Premier League encounters he oversaw, the Red Devils suffered 27 losses.

The former Ajax chief was ultimately dismissed after guiding the club to merely 11 points from their opening nine fixtures in 2024–25. This disappointing beginning followed an eighth-place finish the previous campaign, representing the club's poorest Premier League era conclusion at that time.

If Ten Hag secures another position in England's premier competition, he'll encounter a fresh test managing a Wolves squad that has collected only two points from 10 outings.
