Erling Haaland Drops Major Hint About Shocking MLS Move: 'Incredible, Amazing'

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has expressed his willingness to consider a potential move to Major League Soccer down the line.

The Premier League's Scandinavian scoring sensation stands among the world's elite strikers. Even in what many viewed as a relatively disappointing campaign, Haaland concluded the 2024–25 season with 22 league strikes, surpassing any other player born after 2000 across Europe's premier five leagues.

City harbor no reservations about their star player's abilities, securing him with a groundbreaking deal that runs through 2034. At that point, Haaland will be merely 34 years old, four years junior to MLS's current marquee attraction Lionel Messi.

When asked about potentially emulating the path taken by Inter Miami's skipper and pioneer David Beckham, Haaland remained receptive. "You never know what the future is going to bring," he shared with Time magazine. "What Messi is doing now is incredible. Also what Beckham did, it's amazing."

The Norwegian star experienced American soccer enthusiasm firsthand during this summer's Club World Cup. City established their base in Miami for the competition which concluded abruptly with a round-of-16 loss to Al Hilal. Despite the premature elimination, Haaland found silver linings in his experience. "I didn't know I was famous in the U.S.," he confessed. "Everyone knows who I am."

Haaland's celebrity status would undoubtedly expand should he join America's premier league. However, his recently signed City agreement blocks any immediate transfer.

It's uncommon for a player of Haaland's youth and caliber to commit to a club for such a lengthy duration. Nevertheless, for the 25-year-old, it seemed "really normal for me to do". "They have so much trust in me," he noted. "[I] got the good feeling inside my body."

This confidence flows in both directions. Manchester City are notoriously embroiled in an ongoing legal dispute with the Premier League concerning hundreds of alleged violations of the league's financial rules. If the club is convicted of the most serious charges, they could face numerous harsh penalties, including potential relegations. City have consistently maintained their complete innocence.

Haaland acknowledged the ruling—anticipated sometime in October—was discussed before his signing. "I spoke with the bosses," he disclosed, "and in the end, I believe them. It's such a tricky situation for me to even sit there and speak about, because I wasn't really involved in it. So I think the club knows what they're doing. They will sort it out."
