Erling Haaland Rockets Up the 2026 Ballon d'Or Rankings in Stunning Fashion

Erling Haaland's remarkable, goal-laden 2025–26 campaign for club and country earned him an eighth-place finish in the 2026 Ballon d'Or award standings.

The Norwegian forward has returned to the Ballon d'Or top 10 for the fourth time in six years, finishing above the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior, and Michael Olise. Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane are the only strikers ranked above him.

Yet again, goals flowed freely for the prolific Haaland in another productive season. Despite Manchester City falling short of Premier League glory in 2025–26, Haaland netted 27 league goals to claim the Golden Boot for the third time in four seasons. He was the sole current City player to feature among the 30 Ballon d'Or nominees.

The 26-year-old did help City add two more trophies to their collection, however, lifting both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during Pep Guardiola's farewell season at the helm.

Yet Haaland's finest achievement came over the summer. He guided Norway to a historic World Cup run in the nation's first appearance on the global stage in the 21st century.

The Norwegian striker netted seven goals, including three during the knockout stages, as Norway advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals. His brace to eliminate five-time champions Brazil in the round of 16 will be etched into tournament history forever. He captivated audiences across North America and became the defining figure of the 2026 World Cup, courtesy of some breathtaking displays and his distinctive, magnetic personality.

In total, Haaland registered 58 goals and 11 assists across 64 appearances for club and country in 2025–26. He continues to stand among the greatest goalscorers of the modern game and was rightfully honored at the Ballon d'Or ceremony for the sixth consecutive season.

"He's the best goalscorer in the world, there is no doubt about that," Norway manager Ståle Solbakken said during the 2026 World Cup, adding: "And no, I wouldn't swap him for anyone."

After a notable slide in the Ballon d'Or standings the previous year—dropping to 26th following a trophy-less 2024–25 campaign—Haaland has reclaimed his spot inside the top 10, returning to his rightful place among the planet's elite.

Haaland first appeared in the Ballon d'Or rankings when he placed 11th in 2021 during his time at Borussia Dortmund, moving up one position the following year after his final season in Germany.

Man City claimed a treble in Haaland's debut English season, and his sensational first campaign under Guardiola would likely have earned him the 2023 Ballon d'Or had Lionel Messi not triumphed at the 2022 World Cup. The Norwegian striker still claimed the runner-up spot in 2023, which remains his finest-ever result at the Ballon d'Or.
