Erling Haaland Shatters Premier League Scoring History with Record-Breaking Performance
Erling Haaland has set a new record as the fastest player to score 100 Premier League goals on Tuesday during Manchester City's match against Fulham.
The Norwegian striker achieved this milestone in the 17th minute at Craven Cottage. Haaland fired a powerful shot from inside the penalty area that left Bernd Leno with no chance of making a save. Earlier in the match, he struck the woodwork when presented with a clear opportunity, but made no mistake with his second attempt.
The 25-year-old forward reached this landmark in only 111 Premier League appearances, shattering the previous record set by the league's all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer. The Newcastle United legend achieved the same feat in 124 matches.
Haaland reached the century mark significantly quicker than other prolific strikers including Harry Kane (147), Sergio Agüero (147) and Thierry Henry (160). He also accomplished this milestone 51 games faster than current Premier League star Mohamed Salah (162).
The Norway striker has already broken numerous records this season following an incredible goalscoring run for both club and country, and he will be chasing his own record for most goals in a single Premier League campaign.
Haaland, who has drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi from his manager this season, netted 36 goals during the 2022–23 season while helping secure a treble, breaking Salah's previous mark of 32 goals in a 38-game season.
His 100th Premier League goal was his 15th in the league this season, maintaining a comfortable lead over Brentford's Igor Thiago and Brighton & Hove Albion's Danny Welbeck in this year's scoring rankings.
