Estevao Opens Up About Challenging Dynamic With Chelsea Star Cole Palmer

Chelsea's young winger Estêvão has opened up about how his developing English skills have created some communication challenges with teammate Cole Palmer.

The Brazilian talent made his way to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window and has quickly won over the Chelsea faithful. His dramatic last-minute goal against Liverpool stands out as the pinnacle of his early London experience, consistently demonstrating flashes of his extraordinary talent.

The 18-year-old has expressed surprise at the playing opportunities he's received under manager Enzo Maresca, appearing in nine out of ten matches this season, while also acknowledging his determination to master English to strengthen bonds with his teammates.

Discussing the communication challenges, Estêvão shared with Globo: "It's not overly challenging. I had certain expectations, but actually being here simplifies things. The vocabulary becomes repetitive since it revolves around football.

"I haven't reached fluency yet, but there's been progress. The language stays with me. Many people constantly discussing it. I believe that for me right now, beyond football, mastering English is the priority; it's an international language, particularly while living in England."

The young Brazilian noted that communicating with Chelsea's Palmer has proven especially tricky, given Palmer's characteristic relaxed and straightforward manner in conversations and media appearances.

"The bond with Palmer is still developing," the Brazil squad member continued. "It's somewhat more challenging; his accent is distinctly British, while I was studying American English, which feels more accessible. I manage a few words, but he grasps my meaning."

Estêvão is currently working with Chelsea's language instructor through specialized coaching to enhance his English proficiency, with the club requiring daily sessions for the promising youngster. Luckily, the Blues roster includes fellow Brazilians João Pedro and Andrey Santos.

Chelsea's number 41 is presently representing Brazil internationally, netting twice in their commanding 5–0 victory over South Korea in Friday's friendly match.
