European Giant Issues Stark Warning to Tottenham Over Star Defender Cristian Romero's Future

Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atlético Madrid, has openly expressed his intention to acquire Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero during the upcoming transfer window.
The Argentine center-back finds himself with only two years left on his current deal, sparking widespread speculation about a potential departure from North London this summer. Reports indicate that Romero has grown dissatisfied with his situation at Spurs, particularly regarding how the club handled his fitness concerns during the previous campaign, with matters becoming more complicated after manager Ange Postecoglou's exit.
Against this backdrop, Atlético Madrid have declared their intentions. While initial discussions have taken place behind closed doors, Simeone has now publicly acknowledged his ambition to secure the defender's services.
"Do I want Cuti Romero? Obviously," he stated to DSports (via Olé). "He's a great player."

The speculation intensified when Romero himself expressed his ambitions to compete in Spanish football and declined to dismiss the possibility of a transfer during a recent Los Edul interview. "My focus is always on growing and looking for new places to continue developing," he stated prior to the Europa League final.
The timing of Romero's contract situation may be crucial this summer, as this represents Tottenham's final opportunity to command a substantial fee for the player. The club will be hesitant to part with the Argentine international at a reduced price should he run down his remaining contract.
Tottenham invested £42.5 million ($57.7 million) to secure Romero's signature in 2022 and would presumably seek to make a profit on their original outlay should they decide to sell the defender this summer.
Incoming manager Thomas Frank will likely need to hold discussions with Romero to assess his commitment to remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Frank has reportedly identified Brentford's Nathan Collins as a potential successor should Romero depart for the Spanish capital.
