European Powerhouses Emerge As Serious Contenders To Snatch Mohamed Salah

Paris Saint-Germain have been labeled "a possibility" when it comes to Mohamed Salah's next destination after his departure from Liverpool this summer.

Salah has confirmed he will be leaving Anfield, choosing not to extend into the final year of his deal as he seeks a fresh challenge, with numerous clubs from around the world expected to compete for his services.

Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia have both been mentioned as potential destinations, but Sky Sports News have now added PSG to the conversation.

Could Salah Join PSG?

Désiré Doué, Mohamed Salah

PSG are known to have held admiration for Salah over a number of years—a sentiment shared by virtually every top club in Europe—and, notably, that interest appears to persist to some degree despite what has been a below-par season by his own lofty standards.

A few years back, landing Salah on a free transfer would have been an obvious move for PSG as they sought to assemble their own version of the Galácticos. Their early pursuit of European glory centered on accumulating star power and hoping it would translate into trophies.

It was only after PSG moved away from that approach that the silverware finally came. High-profile signings are still embraced at the Parc des Princes, but the club's philosophy now centers on youth development, with French nationality seen as an added advantage for the nation's biggest club.

Currently occupying the right wing for PSG is 20-year-old Désiré Doué, a gifted talent who, while undeniably impressive, sits just below the elite tier of global superstars that Salah still belongs to despite his difficult campaign.

PSG are unlikely to move away from their commitment to Doué, yet that doesn't necessarily rule out interest in Salah. Should the Egyptian be willing to accept a squad role in return for a place at one of Europe's top clubs, an agreement could potentially be reached.

Much will hinge on Salah's personal ambitions. Securing a guaranteed starting position at the highest level looks increasingly challenging as he nears his 34th birthday, with a supporting role likely being his only realistic route into a club of PSG's stature.

The forthcoming Champions League quarterfinal clash between the two clubs could effectively serve as a showcase for Salah.

Salah's Other Options

Clubs from both La Liga and Serie A are anticipated to explore the possibility of signing Salah, who will also need to factor in the financial implications of his next move.

It is widely known that the lucrative Saudi Pro League is an option for Salah, who could become one of the highest-paid players on the planet by heading to the Middle East. That path, however, would come with a clear step down in terms of league prestige.

The financial rewards in Major League Soccer would be comparatively modest, but the American top flight is gaining credibility and several high-profile names have made the move to North America in recent seasons—most notably Lionel Messi.

The prospect of playing a key role in a club's growth, as Messi has done with Inter Miami and as the likes of Thomas Müller and Son Heung-min are aiming to do with the Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC, could hold genuine appeal for Salah at this stage of his career.

What is certain is that Salah will have no shortage of suitors. While no longer universally regarded as one of the world's absolute best, the Egyptian remains a formidable player on his best days and capable of delivering on the grandest stages. His name alone will attract most clubs, but it is his ability that will ensure plenty of options remain open as he prepares to make one of the biggest decisions of his career.
