Evander Thrills at Neymar and FC Cincinnati Buzz as He Roars Back to Top Form

FC Cincinnati already boasts a standout Brazilian midfielder, even as the club continues to be linked to the South American nation's all-time top scorer, Neymar, in ongoing transfer discussions.

Evander, a key figure at Cincinnati since arriving ahead of the 2025 MLS campaign, has impressed throughout his stint with the team—and could yet share the pitch with his fellow countryman, particularly following a telling celebration on Matchday 8.

With his team down 3–1 in the 79th minute against the Chicago Fire, Evander converted a penalty before forcing an own goal from Dje D'Avilla within the next 10 minutes, rescuing a point for his side despite the difficult opening.

His goal celebration, however, was instantly recognizable. Placing his thumbs against his cheeks and raising his hands while sticking out his tongue, it was a clear nod to Neymar's signature celebration, seemingly an attempt to entice the global superstar to TQL Stadium.

"I saw the same news as you guys, I know nothing about it, but of course, if this happens, of course it will be a big negotiation. With a superstar, who knows how long this is going to take, but if the club can make this happen, I think it will be very helpful for all the players,"  Evander told Cincinnati reporter Laurel Pfahler regarding Neymar and the reported discussions.

"All the players got excited, and it's a chance for us to play with one of the big names in the past few years. And he is a Brazilian, of course, one of my idols, and would be nice, but as I said, I know nothing about it, and hopefully it's not just [rumors], and hopefully it comes through."

Evander Returns to Form

While speculation surrounding Neymar's potential arrival has generated buzz around FC Cincinnati, it has been an inconsistent start to the season. Following Saturday's 3–3 stalemate, the club sat 10th in the Eastern Conference with eight points from eight games. Meanwhile, the goal marked Evander's first of the campaign, having managed just a single assist across his previous seven appearances.

With the strike, the Brazilian reached 43 regular season goals across his spells with the Portland Timbers and Cincinnati, drawing level with Welton for the most MLS goals scored by a Brazilian player, and potentially igniting a strong run for both him and the club.

"When you're pushing, pushing, pushing, now there's more expectation to finish a play from the penalty spot," said FC Cincinnati manager Pat Noonan of his key player. "I was happy to see the first one go in, and he had a strong game. He was influential in our attack."

Cincinnati returns to MLS action on Wednesday, facing New York City FC at Yankee Stadium, in what is expected to be a notable matchup between USMNT World Cup hopeful goalkeeper Roman Celentano and presumed starter Matt Freese.
