AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has downplayed his team's win over his former club Manchester United, calling it "a normal match," though he playfully suggested the Red Devils' press conferences have lost some excitement since his departure.
Amorim was let go by United in January following a difficult 18-month spell at the helm. His successor, Michael Carrick, has overseen a swift turnaround, with morale running high at Old Trafford — even if Saturday's 4–2 loss to Milan delivered a minor setback.
When asked whether the victory carried extra meaning given the opponent, Amorim declined to take any shots at his former club.
"It's a normal match," he said after the final whistle. "Since I signed with Milan, I haven't felt anything about Manchester United."
"I'm just proud to have been at Manchester United and I still love Manchester United, but after signing with Milan, I don't feel anything negative about anything, because I'm very happy. I'm where I should be. So I just want to continue here. I wanted to win a preseason match to give a good image to our fans."
Amorim: 'Do You Miss Me?'
As Amorim made his way through the mixed zone following the match, he greeted BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone with a warm smile and a hug.
Recognizing the journalist, Amorim laughed and asked whether they had missed him.
"Miss your press conferences," Stone admitted, to which Amorim quipped: "More boring now!"
Amorim's media appearances in England were notably eventful, producing several unforgettable moments. He labeled his United squad the worst in the club's history, confessed he sometimes "hates" his players, and even suggested he would sooner pick his goalkeeping coach over Marcus Rashford — who came off the bench for his first United outing since being frozen out by Amorim nearly 20 months ago.
Carrick's measured and composed demeanor in press conferences has earned widespread praise from United supporters and has been credited as a motivating force for the squad during what has been a remarkable 2026 campaign so far.
Carrick: 'No Excuses for AC Milan Loss'
That composed demeanor was evident after the match from Carrick, who pledged to sharpen his side ahead of their Premier League season opener against Hull City on Aug. 22.
"We're disappointed with today," he told MUTV. "We didn't play well today. There's reasons for that in some ways [but] we need to learn from it, we need to improve.
"Some of the boys were playing their first minutes. There's different reasons anyway. No excuses, we just didn't play very well today.
"But on the whole, we're ready for next week. A lot of the boys will be better for the minutes. We've done a lot of work on the training pitch. I think the performances in the games have been pretty good. So, we're still in good spirits going into next week."
