Everton Clash With Man Utd: Bold Predictions, Key Lineups, and What to Expect

Manchester United face former boss David Moyes as they travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to take on Everton in Sunday's Premier League clash.

A deeply underwhelming nine-month tenure at Old Trafford, during which he managed current Red Devils head coach Michael Carrick, is one best left in the past — and the same may well be said of Everton's season come next May, following a calamitous transfer window that has left the club with just 18 outfield players.

Four points from their opening two fixtures at least provides a reasonable platform to build from, and currently places them above United in the table. A commanding 5–2 victory over Ipswich Town helped make up for the humiliating opening-day loss at Hull City, though Carrick and his squad still have considerable ground to cover.

United claimed victory on their sole visit to the Hill Dickinson last season, with Benjamin Šeško netting the only goal of the game. The return fixture told a different story, however, as a ten-man Everton side ground out a hard-earned 1–0 win at Old Trafford.

United put some early-season demons to rest by dismantling Ipswich last weekend, and the expectation is that they'll now build momentum after a shaky start.

They may have half an eye on their Champions League return the following Thursday, but a home tie against Azerbaijani newcomers Sabah should allow them to concentrate fully on a tricky away fixture on Merseyside beforehand.

Everton are rarely easy opponents to deal with, even in their more difficult spells, and they've shown promise in their win over Crystal Palace and a draw against Bournemouth so far this season.

However, having lost Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Tim Iroegbunam and Nathan Patterson on deadline day, their squad depth is worryingly thin — a factor that could be exposed during United's visit.

Prediction: Everton 1–2 Man Utd

Everton Predicted Lineup vs. Man Utd

Everton predicted XI

Jack Grealish has rejoined Everton on loan and is expected to start on the left wing ahead of Tyrique George for United's visit. Fellow new arrival Ainsley Maitland-Niles is likely to be named among the substitutes.

Brennan Johnson is set to fill the void left by the departed Ndiaye on the right flank, while Moyes may need to get creative up front once lead striker Thierno Barry begins to fade, given the limited number of natural center forward options at his disposal.

Former United midfielder James Garner will line up in the middle of the park alongside Everton academy graduate Harrison Armstrong, with Hayden Hackney providing cover from the bench.

The only injury concern for the hosts is Christian Nørgaard, who is yet to make his debut for the club after picking up a groin problem.

Everton predicted lineup vs. Man Utd (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Röhl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Armstrong, Garner; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry.

Carrick will again be without the injured Amad Diallo on the wing, while summer signing Carlos Baleba remains sidelined with the ankle problem he brought with him upon joining the club.

Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton are also ruled out through injury.

Few — if any — changes are expected from the side that defeated Ipswich. Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martínez will continue in the backline after being named on the bench for the Hull game, while Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford could also keep their places following influential showings last weekend.

Youri Tielemans is expected to partner Mainoo in central midfield, which would relegate Andrey Santos to a substitute role. Matheus Cunha faces a challenge from Benjamin Šeško for the starting striker berth, but the Brazilian looks set to retain his place for now.

Man Utd predicted lineup vs. Everton (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martínez, Shaw; Tielemans, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Cunha.
