Exclusive: Ronald Araujo Snubbed These Three Premier League Giants During Summer Transfer Window
Ronald Araújo allegedly rejected several transfer opportunities during the summer window while Barcelona considered his potential departure.
Four European clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus attempted to lure Araújo away from Barcelona during the summer, according to SPORT. Araújo's €1 billion ($1.1 billion) buyout clause temporarily decreased to only €60 million ($70.4 million) during the initial 15 days of July, making him considerably more attractive for clubs seeking to sign him.
However, no deal came to fruition during that timeframe and Araújo's release clause subsequently reverted to its massive original amount.
Ronald Araújo Wants to be Successful at Barcelona
The Uruguayan center-back allegedly expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona. Following a challenging 2024–25 season, the defender aimed to rediscover his peak performance with the sole European team he's represented.
When returning from his break for Barcelona's preseason preparations, Araújo was questioned about his future with the club, responding simply, "If it depends on me, yes." His existing deal extends until the conclusion of the 2030–31 campaign.
Following a six-month absence during the 2024–25 season, Araújo found it difficult to regain his top form and couldn't secure a consistent place in Hansi Flick's starting eleven. He was subsequently blamed as the primary reason for Barcelona's Champions League exit against Inter Milan.
Nevertheless, the Uruguayan is currently competing hard for a regular starting position in 2025–26. Following Iñigo Martínez's exit, Araújo's significance has increased substantially.
Araújo has featured in Barcelona's previous three league matches, wearing the captain's armband on each occasion. Nevertheless, Eric García and Pau Cubarsí seem to be Hansi Flick's favored central defensive partnership, based on his selections in crucial matches this season.
