Fermin Lopez Breaks Silence on Chelsea Transfer Rumors: "Here's What I Really Want"
Barcelona's midfield talent Fermín López has declared his unwavering loyalty to the Catalan club, dismissing speculation about a potential switch to Premier League powerhouse Chelsea.
Following their unsuccessful pursuit of Xavi Simons, who subsequently signed with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea allegedly submitted an eleventh-hour offer for Fermín worth €40 million (£34.6 million, $46.9 million), which Barcelona promptly rejected.
While Fermín has reaffirmed his dedication to Barcelona, speculation persists regarding the 22-year-old's potential transfer to Chelsea, possibly during the January window, with his playing time under manager Hansi Flick likely being a determining factor.
The commanding 6–0 victory against Valencia on Sunday marked Fermín's second league start this campaign and featured a brace from the midfielder, who afterward emphasized his determination to establish a long-term career in Catalonia.
"It's accurate that I've remained composed," he stated. "Not all the rumors circulating are factual, and I prefer not to address that speculation.
"My goal has consistently been to remain at this club for an extended period. I've never questioned my commitment. Despite ongoing rumors, my desire has always been to stay here, and I'll continue working to secure my place for years to come."
Following Fermín's impressive display, Flick acknowledged that the young midfielder is progressing toward earning increased playing opportunities.
"Today represented significant progress for me," Flick commented. "This is the performance level I expect consistently.
"Defensively, he shows great intensity when pressing and dominates many challenges, while also demonstrating exceptional technical ability with possession. He displayed that quality today, and such confidence is truly valuable. I believe he can still develop further and maintain better composure. Perhaps in certain moments, avoiding risky plays and opting for simpler solutions. There's room for growth, but he's heading in the correct direction."
