Fermin Lopez Finally Reveals Why He Rejected Chelsea's Summer Transfer Pursuit

While Barcelona concluded their summer transfer window acquisitions in July, the final day of the window saw all attention turn to Fermín López and speculation surrounding his potential exit from the Catalan club.
In the closing week of the transfer period, Chelsea presented an official offer valued at €40 million (£34.6 million; $46.7 million) in an attempt to bring Fermín to West London. Following extensive rumors, the London side finally submitted their proposal to acquire the academy product.
The deal never materialized. Barcelona remained assured that the midfielder would reject the opportunity, and Hansi Flick even featured Fermín in the weekend's 1–1 stalemate against Rayo Vallecano.
After joining Spain's squad for the forthcoming international fixtures, Fermín discussed Chelsea's pursuit and his choice to remain at Camp Nou in a conversation with Mundo Deportivo.
"Ultimately, my main focus has consistently been remaining at Barcelona," Fermín stated. "I joined this club at 12 years old, it was my aspiration to be here, to make it to the senior squad. It's certainly complimentary when clubs show interest, but my intention has always been to stay at Barça, which represented my dream, and to achieve success here."

Across just two campaigns with Barcelona's senior team, Fermín has recorded 19 goals and 11 assists across 90 matches for the club. He's established himself as a valuable player in Flick's setup, providing both dynamism and skill in attacking areas. The youth academy product has deep loyalty to the club, which influenced his decision to remain.
"It held great significance, because ultimately, that's what I've consistently strived for, to be present, to represent Barça. My intention is to remain here, though in football you're aware that circumstances can change beyond your control, but my main objective has always been staying at Barça," Fermín concluded.
Spain and Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal was also questioned about Fermín's circumstances and how he managed the transfer rumors.
"He's been fine, cheerful as usual," Yamal commented. "We playfully questioned him about what was occurring with England, but nothing serious, he mentioned wanting to remain, that he was content and everything was positive."
Following Fermín's decision to stay at Barcelona, Chelsea changed direction and successfully completed the loan signing of Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton.
