Fernandes Chases Historic Milestone as Man Utd Prepare to Battle Brighton: Injury Updates & Bold Lineup Prediction

Manchester United wrap up the 2025–26 campaign with their Premier League target secured. They can enjoy themselves a little on what looks set to be a glorious day on the south coast.

There has been a flurry of major managerial news coming out of Manchester ahead of the final day, with Pep Guardiola's exit from the sky blue half of the city officially confirmed, following news of Michael Carrick's two-year contract with the Red Devils.

Carrick has done an outstanding job at Old Trafford, steering United to a third-place finish, but heightened expectations and Champions League football mean the challenge only grows for the Englishman going forward.

No Casemiro on Final Day

There has been little movement on the injury front since last week's contentious 3–2 win over Nottingham Forest, with Matthijs de Ligt and Benjamin Šeško dealing with back and shin complaints, respectively.

De Ligt has been absent since November and will be hoping to return fully fit ahead of the 2026–27 campaign, while Šeško has an outside chance of featuring in the matchday squad on Sunday following an encouraging debut season.

Casemiro bid farewell to the Theatre of Dreams last weekend, and Carrick has opted to leave the Brazilian out of the final-day plans. "It just felt the right time I think, for Case," the Man Utd boss said. "It was decided and he was part of that as well. It was the right time, there is an element of balance, like I've just said, the last game, we're not done, the season's not done for us. We're really conscious of that."

The Red Devils are already deep into their search for a successor, and Kobbie Mainoo's midfield partner at the Amex almost certainly won't be holding down a starting spot next season.

Man Utd Predicted Lineup vs. Brighton

Manchester United lineup

GK: Senne Lammens—It has been a composed debut season between the sticks for Lammens, who has surely done enough to convince the club there is no need to target a new goalkeeper this summer.

RB: Diogo Dalot—Dalot has given everything since Carrick's arrival, establishing himself as a dependable defensive presence who can also contribute going forward when the opportunity arises.

CB: Harry Maguire—One of two United defenders left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, Maguire will have plenty of motivation heading into this weekend's fixture.

CB: Lisandro Martínez—The Argentine looks almost certain to be heading to North America this summer, so coming through the final game unscathed will be his main concern on the south coast.

LB: Luke Shaw—Shaw is on the verge of starting every single one of Man Utd's Premier League matches. A truly extraordinary achievement given his well-documented injury troubles. That's the benefit of playing just once a week.

CM: Mason Mount—With Casemiro's time in United colours already over, Carrick will likely turn to Mount, who stepped in for the injured Brazilian at the Stadium of Light a fortnight ago.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo—While Maguire and Shaw were passed over, Mainoo's resurgence has earned him a World Cup place. The electric midfielder with silky footwork will be looking to crown a brilliant few months at club level.

RW: Amad Diallo—The Ivorian's season has faded into mediocrity, and a strong showing on the final day could prove significant for his standing at the club.

AM: Bruno Fernandes—Sunday's match revolves around Fernandes from a United standpoint. The Portuguese star is just one assist short of setting a new Premier League single-season record, having drawn level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne last weekend.

LW: Matheus Cunha—Cunha was gifted his way into double-digit Premier League goals last time out, with officials allowing a clear handball to go unpunished despite VAR review. The Brazilian, named in Carlo Ancelotti's squad this summer, is among the United attackers eager to set up Bruno for the record.

ST: Bryan Mbeumo—Mbeumo opened his account against Nottingham Forest and looks noticeably more effective through the middle than out wide. That will be a factor for Carrick to weigh up ahead of next season.
