The latest development in Ferran Torres's eventful summer has reportedly seen the Barcelona forward come to terms with Paris Saint-Germain.
Ferran, whose deal with the Spanish club runs out at the end of next season, dramatically boosted his profile after netting the World Cup-winning goal for Spain on July 19. The 26-year-old has since embarked on a media circuit, dropping ambiguous hints about his future at Camp Nou as speculation linking him to PSG intensified.
Just under a week ago, Ferran made a pointed declaration: "[Barcelona] must show that they want me." As it turns out, it was PSG that made their intentions clear.
Florian Plettenberg reports that the reigning French and European champions have reached an agreement with Ferran. Direct negotiations between PSG and Barcelona have now commenced.
MARCA adds that Ferran has committed the next four years to the Parisian club, who are set to pay approximately €50 million ($57.8 million) for his signature. The imminent transfer follows Barcelona's reluctance to offer the striker a new contract.
Barcelona Thrown Into Crisis
Hansi Flick may have eight new World Cup winners at his disposal next season, yet he could now find himself without a single natural first-team center forward. Ferran was the last remaining No. 9 in the German coach's squad after Robert Lewandowski departed for Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire this summer.
Should Ferran complete his switch to PSG, Barcelona would be left with a significant void in their attack. Despite the brilliance of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, they require a clinical striker up front to successfully defend their La Liga crown, let alone mount a serious Champions League challenge.
New arrivals Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi can both operate in the central role, but their strengths are better utilized on the flanks. It would be unrealistic to expect either player to match the output Lewandowski delivered; the Polish striker registered 120 goals in 193 appearances for the club.
Barcelona remain hopeful of luring Julián Alvarez away from Atlético Madrid, though little headway has been made in pursuing a player Diego Simeone has no intention of selling.
Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani, a previous target for Barcelona, has become available once more after a proposed move to RB Leipzig collapsed at the last moment.
Is Ferran Making the Right Decision?
A key driver behind Ferran's desire to leave Catalonia is the pursuit of more regular playing time. The striker spent years as a backup to Lewandowski before finally breaking into Flick's starting lineup last season.
Even so, Ferran was inconsistent — delivering a hat trick in one match before fading for extended spells, prompting Flick to rotate his two forwards once more. Ultimately, Ferran wrapped up the 2025–26 campaign with 21 goals in 49 appearances, before adding one crucial strike at the 2026 World Cup — the most important goal of the entire competition.
PSG's overwhelming dominance over the past two seasons makes their interest difficult to dismiss, yet Ferran ironically stands a lesser chance of being a regular starter under Luis Enrique than he did at Barcelona heading into 2026–27.
The starting berth at Barcelona was finally within his grasp — a reward for five seasons of perseverance — yet he now opts to swap Camp Nou for Parc des Princes, where Ousmane Dembélé leads PSG's attack flanked by Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Enrique does rotate his squad extensively, especially during the latter stages of the Champions League, so Ferran would likely feature in Ligue 1 matches. However, it is difficult to envision the Spaniard securing the minutes and prominence he craves at PSG, making this transfer a puzzling choice.
