FIFA Under Fire as 2026 World Cup Final Ticket Prices Reach Shocking New Heights
Supporters seeking to obtain tickets for the 2026 World Cup final via their national football federations will allegedly need to spend over £3,000 ($4,028) for access, prompting demands for FIFA to halt all ticket distribution immediately.
The global football governing body has faced mounting criticism regarding their ticketing approach for the upcoming World Cup. FIFA has been labeled as "ticket touts" by supporter organizations due to their expensive resale system, while the implementation of dynamic pricing—where costs fluctuate in real-time based on demand—has received widespread condemnation.
For most supporters who are unsuccessful in FIFA's competitive lottery system, they may request tickets directly from their national federation. BBC Sport has discovered that the most affordable available ticket for the championship match in East Rutherford on July 19, 2026, will still require £3,119.
This marks an increase of nearly seven-fold compared to the amounts charged to supporters at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
World Cup Final Ticket Price Explosion

Supporter Pricing Category | 2022 World Cup Final | 2026 World Cup Final |
|---|---|---|
Economy | £450 | £3,119 |
Regular | £747 | £4,162 |
Deluxe | £1,197 | £6,615 |
Despite these shocking costs, avoiding the opportunity to purchase early would prove even more costly. If supporters consider bypassing their federation's offerings in favor of FIFA's disputed resale marketplace, they might want to think twice.
When the third phase of ticket distribution launched on Dec. 11, the minimum price listed for a single ticket to the World Cup final exceeded £6,500—over twice the cheapest option available through the FA.
FIFA Charged with Breaking Commitments Over 'Excessive' Costs

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) expressed such disgust at the "excessive" costs that they demanded sales be "immediately stopped" and insisted on "a discussion with all affected parties, and reassessment of ticket costs and category allocation until a resolution that honors the tradition, accessibility, and cultural importance of the World Cup is achieved."
FSE highlighted that supporters purchasing tickets via their federations must pay for all tournament rounds simultaneously when they become available at year's end, months before the competition begins in June, yet cannot access seats in the most affordable 'category four' section.
"Making matters worse, the lowest cost category will be unavailable to the most loyal supporters through their national federations, as FIFA decided to reserve the limited number of category four tickets for general sales, subject to dynamic ticket pricing," their statement declared.
"For the first time in World Cup history, no fixed price will be provided across all group stage matches. Instead, FIFA is implementing a variable pricing system based on unclear criteria such as the supposed appeal of the match.
"Supporters of various national teams will consequently pay different amounts for identical categories at the same tournament stage, without any clarity regarding the pricing framework imposed by FIFA.
"The proposal document published in 2018 guaranteed tickets priced as low as $21. Where have these tickets disappeared? The complete journey to the final, according to the same proposal, was meant to cost $2,242 in the lowest category. This commitment has vanished."
