With the international break now behind us, FIFA has updated its renowned World Rankings, measuring every recognized national side on the planet across a hierarchy spanning from first place all the way down to 211th.
Tuesday's concluding round of friendlies and World Cup qualifiers marked the end of the second-to-last opportunity for nations worldwide to improve their standings, with only the one-week window in early June remaining before this summer's World Cup kicks off.
A new nation has risen to the summit of the rankings, along with several significant shifts affecting this summer's host countries.
FIFA World Rankings: Top 30 Teams

France has ascended to the top of the rankings. The 2018 World Cup winners have occupied this position on just two previous occasions — dominating from May 2001 through May 2002, and briefly reclaiming the summit in late 2018 following their global title.
France displaces Spain, who had held the top spot since September 2025, after Les Bleus accumulated significant points with victories over highly-ranked sides Brazil and Colombia during the international break. Spain, for their part, defeated Serbia before settling for a draw against Egypt.
Spain had been scheduled to face Argentina in La Finalissima during this window, but following the cancellation of that match, both teams were forced to arrange last-minute friendlies. Argentina's fixtures against lower-ranked sides Mauritania and Zambia did little to enhance their global standing.
England holds steady in fourth, while Portugal has moved up to fifth, leapfrogging Brazil to round out the changes within the top 10. The Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany all maintain their respective positions, as does Croatia in 11th.
In 12th place sits the first team absent from the upcoming World Cup. Italy was eliminated on penalties by Bosnia & Herzegovina in the playoffs and will now miss a third consecutive World Cup, yet the Azzurri still manage to climb one spot in the rankings following Senegal's drop after the overturning of the Africa Cup of Nations final result.
The first World Cup co-host appears at 15th, with Mexico claiming that distinction. Draws against both Portugal and Belgium — two top-nine nations — have significantly boosted Mexico's ranking, lifting them above the United States, who drop to 16th. Fellow co-host Canada sits in 30th.
