After the drama of Tuesday's World Cup qualifying fixtures, the complete 2026 FIFA World Cup lineup has finally been confirmed.
The last six berths at next summer's tournament were distributed around the world, with the biggest surprise being Italy's failure to qualify once again. A penalty shootout loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina means the Italians have been absent for a third consecutive tournament.
Denmark also fell short following their defeat to Czechia, which secured its spot alongside Türkiye, Sweden, DR Congo and Iraq to round out the full 48-team field.
Italy Misses Out on Chaotic Night

The nation ranked 13th in FIFA's world rankings will be absent from the World Cup.
Italy, who lifted the trophy in 2006, has claimed just one World Cup victory since that celebrated occasion and has failed to qualify for the competition since 2014. That streak will continue for at least another four years following a stunning loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina, who capitalized on Alessandro Bastoni's red card in the first half to push the Azzurri into a penalty shootout.
Eight positions lower in the FIFA rankings is Denmark. Brian Riemer's squad controlled Czechia throughout the match—77% possession and 22 attempts on goal—but lacked composure at crucial moments and were held to a 2–2 stalemate after 120 minutes. Like Italy, Denmark's fate was also sealed from the spot.
Türkiye booked their first World Cup appearance since 2002 with a convincing victory over Kosovo, sparked by Kerem Aktürkoglu's goal early in the second half, while Sweden claimed the final European qualification spot.
Sweden vs. Poland was a rematch of a 2022 World Cup qualifier. In that encounter, Poland had prevailed, making Sweden's win here feel like sweet revenge, celebrated enthusiastically as Arsenal's Viktor Gyökeres netted in the 88th minute to clinch a thrilling 3–2 win.
