Five England Stars Pull Out of National Team Duty

England has announced the withdrawal of five players from its squad ahead of the September-October international window.

Nations League fixtures against Spain, Croatia, and a double-header with Czechia will proceed without Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, and Declan Rice, all of whom have officially pulled out of the squad.

The quintet are all reportedly dealing with various physical complaints. "Load management" was cited as the reason for Palmer's absence in initial reports, while a persistent hip issue is responsible for Manchester United winger Rashford's withdrawal. Livramento, meanwhile, picked up an injury during Newcastle United's training session on Friday.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel has opted against making sweeping changes to his squad despite the significant number of absentees. At this point, only two replacements have been announced.

Everton midfielder James Garner, who worked under Tuchel earlier this season, has been called up alongside Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White, who many believed was unfairly left out of the original squad selection.

Additional call-ups may follow in the days ahead.

England kicks off its post-World Cup campaign on Sept. 26 when defending world champions Spain visit Wembley Stadium for a Nations League clash.

A trip to Prague follows three days later for the first of two encounters with Czechia. Croatia provides the opposition on Oct. 3, before England closes out the international break by welcoming Czechia to Wembley on Oct. 6.
