Five Exciting Clubs Ready to Snap Up Dani Carvajal Following His Real Madrid Departure

Real Madrid has officially confirmed that Dani Carvajal will leave the club as a free agent when the current season concludes.

The 33-year-old, who made his senior debut for Los Blancos during the 2013–14 campaign, had long been anticipated to depart, even after being handed the captain's armband last summer.

Carvajal's farewell season at Real Madrid has proven to be a frustrating one. After battling further physical setbacks following his recovery from an ACL tear, the experienced right back has found himself competing for minutes with Trent Alexander-Arnold, managing just 22 outings across all competitions in a trophy-free 2025–26 campaign. In La Liga alone, he has started only nine matches.

Whatever the circumstances of his exit, Carvajal leaves the Spanish capital as one of the genuine greats of the modern era.

Madrid Hails a Legend

Real Madrid

Earlier this season, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa described Carvajal as: "[He] might be the most important academy product in the history of the club."

The policeman's son rose through the youth ranks to rack up 450 appearances for Los Blancos and collect 27 trophies, among them six Champions League titles—a record unmatched by any player in football history.

In 2024, Carvajal finished fourth in the Ballon d'Or standings and earned a place in The Best FIFA Men's 11, having netted in the Champions League final victory against Borussia Dortmund.

Announcing Carvajal's summer exit, club president Florentino Pérez stated on the club's official website: "Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its youth academy. His image alongside our beloved and unforgettable Alfredo Di Stéfano laying the foundation stone of Real Madrid City will forever remain in the hearts of all Madridistas and in the history of our club. Carvajal has always exemplified the values of Real Madrid. This is and always will be his home."

The Bernabéu will honor one of its greatest servants on Saturday as Carvajal features in his final match for the club, Madrid's closing fixture of the 2025–26 season against Athletic Club.

Where Could Carvajal Go Next?

Dani Carvajal

With the season drawing to a close, Carvajal is set to become a free agent and a tempting acquisition for clubs this summer.

While his next destination remains unclear, the defender has previously dropped hints about where his future may lie.

Speaking to The Athletic in 2024, he disclosed: "When I decide not to be at Real Madrid, I'm not going to play in Europe and the alternatives are much reduced."

So where might Carvajal ultimately end up?

1. Major League Soccer

Lionel Messi

When pressed in the same The Athletic interview about whether MLS held any appeal, Carvajal responded, "It's a possibility."

A move to link up with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami may seem far-fetched, but numerous clubs would eagerly hand a contract to a genuine world-class name capable of instilling a winning culture.

The two Los Angeles sides, Galaxy and LAFC, have long been popular landing spots for Spanish-speaking stars.

2. Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo

The most obvious destination. Carvajal, even at 34 and no longer at his absolute peak, carries the kind of prestige the Saudi Pro League is eager to attract.

That said, The Athletic notes that a potential Saudi move could prove "difficult" at present, given the ongoing geo-political tensions in the region.

Al Nassr would present the familiar company of Cristiano Ronaldo and former Barcelona centre-back Iñigo Martínez.

3. Qatar Stars League

Joselu

Much like Saudi Arabia, Qatar could present complications for Carvajal at this time given the current regional climate, regardless of any personal interest.

Notably, Carvajal's brother-in-law and former Real Madrid colleague Joselu is expected to depart Stars League side Al Gharafa this summer after two seasons in the country.

High-profile players currently active in Qatar's top flight include Aleksandar Mitrović, Marco Verratti and Roberto Firmino. The league also boasts a considerable Spanish contingent featuring Luis Alberto, Rodrigo and Pablo Sarabia.

4. Liga MX

Sergio Ramos

Should the Middle East situation limit Carvajal's options, Mexico could emerge as a viable alternative.

Former teammates Sergio Ramos and James Rodríguez have both had stints in Liga MX with Monterrey and León respectively in recent years.

There is also a longstanding connection between Madrid icons and Mexico, with Míchel, Bernd Schuster and Emilio Butragueño among those who have previously played in the country.

5. Süper Lig

Marco Asensio

Technically, this would contradict Carvajal's earlier statement about not staying in Europe after leaving Madrid. Nevertheless, Türkiye could offer him a route away from Europe's elite leagues while still delivering a financially rewarding conclusion to his career.

Marco Asensio is currently the most prominent Spanish player in the Süper Lig, representing 2025–26 runners-up Fenerbahçe.
