Fletcher Drops Bombshell on Man Utd's Interim Manager Hunt Timeline

Manchester United interim manager Darren Fletcher has announced he will oversee the squad for Sunday's FA Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion, with a new temporary manager anticipated to be named following that encounter.

United are searching for a successor to Ruben Amorim following his dismissal on Monday. Instead of appointing a permanent manager right away, the Red Devils are inclined toward bringing in an interim leader to guide the team through the remainder of the season.

Those being evaluated include former United legends Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick, while Ruud van Nistelrooy has also been mentioned as a potential candidate.

While there was optimism that United would announce an appointment in the near future, Fletcher doesn't expect that to happen, disclosing that club executives have requested him to manage the team on Sunday as well.

"They've told me they want me to handle the team for Sunday," Fletcher shared with reporters following Wednesday's 2–2 stalemate with Burnley.

"There was a sense that might be the situation from Monday, but we wanted to concentrate on Burnley. I'm assigned with guiding the team on Sunday, so all my attention and effort goes toward that now."

Gary Neville: United Manager Search Feels Like Groundhog Day

Discontent regarding the choice to recruit Amorim initially has been widespread among supporters in recent days, especially as increasing evidence of boardroom indecision toward the Portuguese manager continues to surface.

For former United defender Gary Neville, who was referenced in Amorim's final press conference, emphasized the club are now back in the identical predicament they encountered several years earlier.

"They appointed Ryan [Giggs] in charge 10 years ago, then Ole took charge and you return to the former players, then you pursue a new one, then you seek more experience," Neville commented on Sky Sports.

"It is almost like a pattern, like a film we have all watched before and Groundhog Day. What I do believe is Ole is someone who genuinely adores the club, he understands the position, he has held the position.

"The other candidates that have been discussed—Michael Carrick, Ruud van Nistelrooy—these are truly exceptional individuals. I practiced with those players for many years.

"They cherish the club deeply, they comprehend the club, but still they are going to face significant pressure in this next four or five months if outcomes don't favor them and they are going to need to be prepared for that.

"Whoever is going to receive it out of those three who are being discussed, I hope them the very best because it is a challenging position."
