Few would have been more relieved by a free midweek than Hansi Flick, who acknowledged that tiredness was a contributing factor in Barcelona's Clásico loss last weekend.
Barça looked as disorganized and uninspired as they have under the German coach's watch, as José Mourinho orchestrated a commanding victory for Real Madrid.
It has been a grueling start to the campaign for the reigning back-to-back champions, who had been flawless across all competitions in record-setting fashion before last week's stumble. Injuries are beginning to pile up, but Flick has sufficient depth to manage, particularly against a Deportivo Alavés side that remains winless across nine trips to Barcelona and hasn't claimed a victory since September 6.
Here's how Barcelona could set up against Alavés on Saturday.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup vs. Alavés (4-2-3-1)

GK: Joan García—Flick is expected to make sweeping changes given Barça's upcoming schedule, though García is less in need of a rest compared to many of the outfield players.
RB: João Cancelo—Unless the coach turns to La Masia, Cancelo will likely be required to continue at right back in Xavi Espart's continued absence.
CB: Pau Cubarsí—Injury concerns leave the hosts thin at center back, meaning Cubarsí, who was controversially overlooked for the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, will need to hold his position.
CB: Gerard Martín—Martín was one Andriy Lunin save away from giving Barça a second-half advantage in the Clásico before Kylian Mbappé struck late. The left-footed defender was partly responsible for the Frenchman's fortunate opener, but is expected to keep his place.
LB: Alejandro Balde—A much-needed run of games in the starting XI could be on the horizon for Balde.
CM: Marc Bernal—A significant overhaul in midfield is anticipated, given Rodri's fitness concerns and Pedri's recent form. Bernal has seen limited action so far this season.
Pick Your Barcelona XI!
CM: Frenkie de Jong—De Jong's comeback from a knee injury suffered at the World Cup will be a welcome boost. The Dutchman settled in well last week and could be handed the captain's armband at Camp Nou.
RW: Lamine Yamal—Yamal's pursuit of the 2027 Ballon d'Or is already underway, and the young Spaniard will be eager to make an impact after missing out on Monday night.
AM: Gavi—Fermín López is set to be relied upon in fixtures against Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid before the international break, so Gavi could take on a more advanced midfield role while Dani Olmo remains sidelined.
LW: Karim Adeyemi—Anthony Gordon was arguably Barça's standout attacker in the Clásico, but Adeyemi is not far behind him in the pecking order.
ST: Gabriel Jesus—Raphinha must be saved for the crucial matches ahead. Flick should have no hesitation in deploying Jesus here, given the impressive start he has made to his Barcelona career.
