Florian Wirtz Declares Bold Ambition in First Liverpool Statement: "I Want to Win Everything"

Liverpool have officially announced the acquisition of Florian Wirtz in a record-breaking British transfer that could reach a total value of €136.3 million (£116.1 million, $157.8 million).

Wirtz, who emerged as one of the most coveted players in the global transfer market this summer, has signed a five-year contract with Liverpool, joining his former teammate Jeremie Frimpong who moved to the club earlier in the transfer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder is coming from an exceptional campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, where he contributed 30 goals and assists across 45 matches. In the previous season, he played a crucial role in helping the German club secure their maiden Bundesliga championship.

Despite playing in the German league, Wirtz was impressed by Liverpool's outstanding inaugural season under manager Arne Slot. The Merseyside club suffered just four defeats during their title-winning Premier League campaign, claiming their record 20th domestic league crown.

"I believe it was thoroughly deserved because [Liverpool] had an incredible season," Wirtz commented. "It was absolutely amazing to witness the massive crowds and the electric atmosphere. It was truly spectacular to observe."

Beyond the festivities, Wirtz emphasized his determination to contribute to Liverpool's trophy ambitions and help deliver an even more successful campaign across all tournaments compared to their 2024–25 achievements.

"I'm not arriving here for entertainment purposes. I want to accomplish great things and provide the supporters with what they merit," Wirtz declared. "My aspiration is to claim every trophy each season!

"Initially, we must focus on our responsibilities, and I need to fulfill my duties. Ultimately, we aim for success. They captured the Premier League last season, so my objective is certainly to retain it and advance further in the Champions League. I possess tremendous ambition."

Liverpool's Champions League journey ended in the round of 16 after being eliminated by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain. The arrivals of Wirtz and his former Bayer Leverkusen colleague Frimpong provide Slot with additional quality for the forthcoming campaign.
