Florian Wirtz's Agent Reveals Star's "Greatest Wish" in Blockbuster Transfer Push
A prominent German football representative has disclosed that he made direct contact with Real Madrid to propose Florian Wirtz to the Spanish giants before last summer's move to Liverpool materialized. Furthermore, he maintains his personal goal of facilitating that transfer in the future.
Wirtz finalized a £116 million ($157.3 million) switch from Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield in late June, after being strongly pursued by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid during the previous months.
Volker Struth, who doesn't officially represent Wirtz as an agent—that role is filled by the player's father—but is understood to have some connection to his business matters, attempted to facilitate a transfer to Madrid.
"While discussions about a potential move to Liverpool or Bayern were ongoing, I reached out to Xabi Alonso and said: 'You need to bring the talented youngster from Leverkusen with you to Real,'" Struth revealed on Bild's Phrasenmäher podcast.
He stated that Alonso, who had previously coached Wirtz in Germany, supported the idea but directed Struth to contact Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez directly. "So I actually messaged him: 'Dear Florentino, I've mentioned this to you several times before: I have a player here whom I would strongly endorse.'
"'Florian Wirtz would enhance any team globally,'" the representative added.

Struth clearly suggested that Wirtz was outside Real Madrid's financial capabilities in 2025.
Liverpool agreed to a British record transfer fee for Wirtz—later exceeded within weeks when the Reds paid an even higher amount for Alexander Isak. This sum would have also represented a club record for Real Madrid, whose largest transfer expenditure to date brought Jude Bellingham for up to £115 million.
Rather than focusing on one major signing, funds were distributed among several players, leading to the acquisitions of Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Álvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono.
"The timing simply wasn't appropriate considering the squad composition and financial constraints," Struth explained. "Even Real Madrid's treasury isn't perpetually abundant. However, my desire persists that Florian will eventually play there.
"My ultimate aspiration, naturally, would have been to see Florian at Real Madrid—and I believe I'm not the only one with that sentiment. I also believe he would flourish in that environment. He's performing admirably at Liverpool currently. [But] he's still a very young talent and nobody can predict what his career path might hold."
Could Real Madrid Target Wirtz in the Future?

Wirtz is beginning to establish himself at Liverpool following a difficult initial period at Anfield, but supporters might be troubled that a representative with connections to both Wirtz and Real Madrid—Struth previously worked with Toni Kroos—is so publicly discussing a potential move to the Bernabéu.
Wirtz reaches 23 years of age in May and holds a Liverpool contract through 2030. When that agreement has two years remaining—typically the moment to begin renewal or sale negotiations—he will be approaching 25 and might reasonably evaluate whether Liverpool is where he wants to spend his prime playing years.
Real Madrid boasts an impressive tradition with German talent, spanning from Paul Breitner in the 1970s, to Bernd Schuster in the 1980s, Bodo Illgner in the 1990s and Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira, Antonio Rüdiger and the previously mentioned Kroos in the modern era.
