Former England manager Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75, seven months after publicly disclosing his cancer diagnosis.
"It is with profound sorrow that we share the news of Kevin Keegan's passing at the age of 75," Keegan's family said in a statement provided to Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves.
"The former England player and manager had been fighting cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments. Kevin, a two-time Ballon d'Or recipient, was a deeply cherished husband, father and grandfather. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Kevin's outstanding medical team for their unwavering support. This is an incredibly difficult time and they are asking for space and privacy."
Keegan's family confirmed in January that the Newcastle United and Liverpool legend had received a cancer diagnosis following scans conducted ahead of surgery for an injury sustained in a car accident. In June, he disclosed a Stage IV diagnosis.
He is perhaps most celebrated for a distinguished stint with Liverpool between 1971 and 1977. Keegan played a key role in securing three First Division championships alongside the 1976–77 European Cup, cementing his legendary status in Reds history.
Keegan claimed consecutive Ballons d'Or in 1978 and 1979—making him one of only seven men to achieve the feat—and later became an icon at Newcastle. He bowed out on a high during his time with the Magpies in 1984 and returned to the managerial hot seat eight years later.
Stints with Fulham, the England national team and Manchester City followed, before a final comeback to Newcastle in 2008.

"As a manager, he set our city alight. Kevin gave supporters hope and pride, and led a team whose style, spirit and passion captured the hearts of football fans across the globe. He was so much more than an Entertainer.
"Above all else, Kevin forged an extraordinary connection with Newcastle, rooted in the legacy of his father, Joe. He understood our people. He embraced the North East with a passion that was genuine and steadfast, and in return, he earned a rightful place in the hearts of millions.
"Kevin's impact will not be measured by appearances or results. It will endure in the memories he created with club and country, the dreams he inspired wherever he went, and the generations of supporters around the world who fell in love with football because of him.
"At this deeply sorrowful time, we extend our love and heartfelt condolences to Kevin's wife Jean, his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
