Just as fans assumed ticket prices for this summer's 2026 World Cup had reached their ceiling, FIFA went ahead and raised them again.
FIFA launched its fourth and final ticket sales phase on Wednesday, and with soccer's governing body continuing to employ a dynamic pricing model—capitalizing on surging demand—tickets have reached historically steep prices.
The most dramatic price hike applies to the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Premium Category 1 tickets—covering seats in the stadium's lower two tiers—debuted at $10,990, a jump of more than 70% compared to the original $6,370 price tag from October when sales first launched. Category 2 and Category 3 seats opened at $7,380 and $5,785, respectively, up from $4,210 and $2,790 in October.
For context, a Category 1 ticket for the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar averaged $1,607, according to Statista, which was already a significant jump from the average $1,100 Category 1 ticket at the 2018 World Cup final in Russia.
Even accounting for the U.S. hosting premium, when America last staged the tournament in 1994, the World Cup final between Brazil and Italy cost fans around $1,500. Adjusted for 2026 inflation, that figure translates to approximately $3,300 in today's dollars—still far below what FIFA is currently demanding.
Given the jaw-dropping surge in ticket prices, let's think a little outside the box. What else could someone buy for the same price as a Category 1 ticket to the 2026 World Cup final?
A Cruise Trip
You and a friend could enjoy a 10-night Southern Caribbean cruise and still have more than $2,000 left over for sunscreen and a designer swimsuit.
A Diamond Ring
You could even seal the ultimate multi-carat commitment of a lifetime to your partner for less than the cost of a World Cup final ticket.
A Construction Excavator
If you're planning a backyard DIY project, you could actually purchase a mini excavator for the equivalent price of a single ticket.
*Does not include the cost of storing said excavator afterward.
A Used Car
In need of a new set of wheels? You could pick up a used vehicle less than ten years old for the same amount it costs to attend the World Cup final.
(Several) Televisions
Feeling generous? You could buy 35 50-inch flat-screen TVs for everyone you care about—and even that one person you merely put up with.
