Forgotten Real Madrid Weapon Roars Back to Life at the Perfect Moment

Forgotten Real Madrid Weapon Roars Back to Life at the Perfect Moment

Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa announced that defender Éder Militão has been cleared to return after spending nearly four months sidelined with injury.

The Brazilian center back, who tore his hamstring in early December, has completed a full return to team training and received medical clearance to end his lengthy absence. Militão traveled with the squad to Mallorca on Friday for what could mark his first outing of 2026.

"He's coming back. He'll be in Mallorca," Arbeloa said of Militão at his pre-match press conference. "When fully fit, he's arguably the finest center back on the planet.

Éder Militão

"I haven't had the chance to manage him in a match yet, but we've enjoyed his presence at Real Madrid for many years, and often you get the sense that there are two players on the pitch when he's playing. He's an outstanding center back thanks to his physical attributes, his skill set, his football intelligence and his leadership qualities.

"He will help us enormously. He is a difference-maker. I'm delighted to have him back because he will be vital during this final run of the season as we compete for every title."

Having been without Militão for virtually the entire second half of the campaign, Real Madrid will be overjoyed to welcome the defender back just in time for the Champions League quarterfinals against Bayern Munich, as well as a pivotal run of La Liga fixtures in their pursuit of Barcelona at the top of the table.

Injury Boosts Come at the Perfect Time for Real Madrid

Jude Bellingham

Militão is not the only Real Madrid player returning from injury. Jude Bellingham also made his much-anticipated comeback before the international break, coming off the bench during the team's Madrid derby victory.

The midfielder was included in England's squad by manager Thomas Tuchel, but failed to feature in friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. Reports suggested Los Blancos were frustrated by the cautious approach, as it prevented Bellingham from rebuilding his match sharpness, though Arbeloa expressed no grievances.

"His situation was unique. He played a few minutes against Atlético, and his national team manager decided he shouldn't feature," Arbeloa said of his midfield star.

"I understand they didn't want to take any chances, but Jude is smart enough to have put in quality training sessions and maintained his fitness. He's ready to play [against Mallorca] and contribute to the team, which is exactly what we need—getting him back into competitive rhythm."

Whether Arbeloa will hand the No. 10 a starting spot on Saturday against Mallorca remains to be seen, but simply having Bellingham available—even from the bench—represents a significant boost for a Real Madrid side still trailing Barcelona by four points in the race for the Spanish title.

Arbeloa Gives Worrying Vinicius Junior Update

Vinicius Junior

Vinicius Junior has been one of the few players to avoid a prolonged injury absence this season, but concerns arose when he reported thigh discomfort while representing Brazil. The winger still clocked significant minutes for the Seleção in matches against France and Croatia, leaving him with minimal recovery time.

It comes as little surprise, then, that Arbeloa acknowledged Real Madrid's No. 7 is "tired," joking that his "friend" Carlo Ancelotti gave the 25-year-old very little time to recuperate.

"Both Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team operate at an extremely high level of demand, but that's the reality [Vinicius Jr] has to navigate. He's a phenomenal player, and it's evident he's been carrying a heavy workload since the beginning of 2026.

"I don't think he's had a single day to rest. We'll assess how he feels ahead of [Saturday's] match and make our call."

Should Vinicius Jr—who has racked up 49 appearances across all competitions this season, including last summer's Club World Cup—be given a rest against Mallorca to preserve him for the Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Brahim Díaz is expected to step in alongside Kylian Mbappé in attack.
