Former Champions League Finalists Set Sights on Manchester United and Chelsea's Star Goalkeepers

French Ligue 1 club Monaco are actively seeking a new goalkeeper for the upcoming summer transfer window, with French media reports indicating that Manchester United's André Onana and Chelsea's Djordje Petrović have caught their attention.
Monaco, who reached the Champions League final in 2004 and made it to the semifinals under Leonardo Jardim during the 2016–17 campaign, secured third place in Ligue 1 last season while being managed by Austrian coach Adi Hütter.
Following German keeper Alexander Nübel's return to his homeland after completing a two-year loan spell, both Radoslaw Majecki and Philipp Köhn competed for Monaco's number one position throughout the previous campaign, yet neither managed to establish themselves as the clear first choice. Underwhelming performances from both goalkeepers have made finding a new custodian one of the club's primary objectives for the 2025–26 season, with their focus turning toward several Premier League alternatives.
Based on reports from L'Equipe, United's Onana and Chelsea's Petrović feature among the potential targets. The former has served as the Red Devils' primary goalkeeper over the last two campaigns, though his performances at Old Trafford have been unconvincing, potentially prompting United to seek an upgrade from the Cameroonian.
Petrović, on the other hand, enjoyed a period as Mauricio Pochettino's preferred goalkeeper during the 2023–24 season before losing his position to Robert Sánchez. The Serbian then spent the following season on loan at Strasbourg while Chelsea brought in Filip Jørgensen to support Sánchez.
The Serbian goalkeeper has now returned to west London but was notably excluded from Enzo Maresca's Club World Cup roster—a clear signal that his future lies elsewhere.
Consequently, Petrović appears to be a more realistic target than Onana, even though United might entertain offers for their former Ajax and Inter Milan star. The penalty-stopping expert had an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 with Liam Rosenior's team and managed to keep a clean sheet when they faced Monaco in April.
Nevertheless, these two players represent just a portion of the options being evaluated by Hütter's squad. Barcelona's Marc-André ter Stegen and Trabzonspor's Uğurcan Çakır have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
