Former Man City Boss Fires Back Defiantly at Explosive Allegation: 'That's Their Problem'

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has dismissed allegations against him in the ongoing investigation into the club as "not his concern."

Leaked documents appeared to indicate that Mancini, who arrived at City in 2009 at the very beginning of the nine-year period under scrutiny by the Premier League, had received unauthorized payments from City's ownership group during his four-year tenure — a claim that sits at the heart of one of the numerous accusations leveled against the club.

Following reports that City had been found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges brought against them, current Italy head coach Mancini moved swiftly to separate himself from the controversy.

"It's not a matter that involves me," Mancini stated. "This is nothing new — the issue has been talked about for the past four or five years.

"Manchester City has not been found guilty, and the alleged dual contract is not something I'm responsible for. That's their problem, not mine."

Mancini was the first managerial hire made under City's new ownership structure, taking over from Mark Hughes in 2009. He had previously claimed three back-to-back Serie A titles with Inter Milan and had been linked with a move to Chelsea a year before heading to Manchester, after a legal dispute with the Italian club left him sidelined until shortly before his City appointment.

Leaked documents revealed that Mancini's contract with City included a base salary of £1.45 million ($1.9 million at today's exchange rate), but the controversy centers on what Mancini himself referred to as the "double contract."

Those same leaks revealed that Mancini held a separate consultancy contract with Abu Dhabi club Al Jazira, which was also under the ownership of City's principal owner, Sheikh Mansour. That arrangement included an additional salary of £1.75 million, channeled through an offshore company.

Among the charges leveled at City is a failure to disclose "full details of manager remuneration in its relevant contracts with its manager," with allegations that club officials deliberately concealed these off-the-books payments made to Mancini.

When Mancini was dismissed in 2013, his exit also created additional complications for City as they attempted to comply with UEFA's newly introduced Financial Fair Play regulations.

Leaked emails reportedly show Jorge Chumillas, City's chief financial officer at the time, acknowledging "a shortfall of £9.9 million" in meeting FFP requirements, tied directly to Mancini's severance payment.

City are alleged to have relied on inflated sponsorship agreements, bankrolled by the ownership group, to bridge that financial gap. Mancini himself is not suspected of any wrongdoing in connection with this particular allegation.

City have consistently denied all accusations made against them, and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak reaffirmed his belief that the club would clear their name as recently as Saturday — just 24 hours after the guilty verdict was announced. City are widely expected to file an appeal.
