Franco Mastantuono Exposes How Xabi Alonso's 'Incredible' Move Shaped His Real Madrid Deal
Franco Mastantuono disclosed that an exceptionally persuasive conversation with Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso served as the key factor that "inspired" him to sign with the Spanish powerhouse during the summer transfer window.
The record-setting young Argentine talent attracted attention from Europe's top clubs. Manchester United and Chelsea were reportedly among the frontrunners pursuing River Plate's youngest-ever scorer, alongside other prestigious teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona who showed interest in the left-footed creative midfielder.
Nevertheless, Real Madrid emerged victorious in securing Mastantuono's services earlier this month. Prior to finalizing an agreement that will ultimately bring River €45 million ($51.7 million), the Argentine prospect had a crucial meeting with the newly-appointed Alonso.
"Xabi's approach toward me was extraordinary," Mastantuono expressed enthusiastically during his interview with DAZN.
"I feel immense gratitude toward him. Our conversation had a tremendous impact on my decision because when a manager actively pursues you, it represents a significant endorsement for a player departing from a prestigious institution like River Plate. That transition isn't simple. His encouraging words truly inspired me to take this leap forward."

Although Alonso's persuasive presentation certainly played a crucial role, the prestige of Europe's most triumphant football club provides a compelling case on its own. "Representing Real Madrid represents a lifelong aspiration," Mastantuono acknowledged.
"It stands as the world's premier football institution, the organization with the most European victories. Every footballer dreams of playing there. All professionals aspire to join their ranks. I understand I'll need to transform my entire lifestyle to compete at that level. Actions speak louder than words; everyone understands the magnitude of this opportunity."
Mastantuono remains eager to absorb every piece of wisdom that Alonso shares. "Regarding football development, I must continue expanding my knowledge, and I'm certain there's still much more for me to discover," he reflected. "I value listening, learning, and observing carefully. These represent my core strengths, and they assist me in resolving challenges during matches."
Before adapting to Madrid's expectations, Mastantuono must first complete his Club World Cup duties with River Plate. Palmeiras's Brazilian talent Estêvão, who will join Chelsea next season, has discussed his difficulty maintaining focus on the current competition. However, Mastantuono faces no such distractions.
"Each time I represent River Plate, from my very first appearance, I strive to perform with complete professionalism," he emphasized before a crucial group match against Inter Milan. "I realize my remaining appearances here are limited, but I consistently bring the same commitment and enthusiasm. My devotion to this club runs deep, and I will forever dedicate myself completely to these jersey colors."
