Frenkie de Jong Drops Bombshell on Barcelona Future with Contract Revelation
Barcelona's midfield star Frenkie de Jong has revealed he is close to finalizing a contract extension with the Catalan giants.
Although De Jong has consistently expressed his wish to remain at the Camp Nou, his contractual status raised significant concerns as he moved into the last year of his existing agreement without securing new terms.
The situation became more complex due to a disagreement between De Jong and his management team. The Netherlands star needed to complete his exit from his former agency arrangement before beginning discussions with Barcelona, a matter that wasn't settled until August.
Once Barcelona gained the freedom to negotiate directly with De Jong, sporting director Deco recently expressed confidence that the midfielder would imminently pen a fresh deal, before Fabrizio Romano reported that the arrangement between both sides was virtually complete.
While preparing for the Netherlands' triumph over Malta on Thursday, De Jong was questioned about Romano's recent report, and the 28-year-old was pleased to validate the information.

"Essentially, as I've consistently stated, I will extend my stay with Barcelona," he declared. "We're extremely close.
"Once there's official confirmation, you'll be informed, but I cannot reveal details at this moment."
When questioned about his intentions to remain at Barcelona for an extended period beyond the six years he has already spent with the Blaugrana, De Jong simply responded: "That's my wish."
A new contract would conclude years of uncertainty surrounding his future at Barcelona. De Jong has continuously emphasized his dedication to the club but was placed on the transfer market multiple times in recent years due to concerns about his substantial wages.
An ongoing transfer narrative involving Manchester United has frequently captured media attention, but De Jong has never engaged with the speculation, focusing on his performance and establishing himself as a crucial player under Hansi Flick following his injury recovery last season.
