Gabriel Ignites Arsenal's Battle Charge for Premier League Glory in 2025-26

Gabriel remains optimistic that Arsenal can cross the finish line next season and claim their first Premier League championship in more than two decades.

In December 2019, Mikel Arteta was appointed to guide Arsenal back to title-winning success. There were significant hopes for the Spanish coach, who had contributed to Manchester City's two Premier League victories as an assistant coach.

However, throughout his time in north London, Arteta has struggled to achieve success on the grandest stage. Arsenal have endured five years without silverware and have finished as league runners-up in their previous three campaigns.

Nevertheless, the club and squad continue to support their manager despite recent setbacks. Gabriel shared his thoughts with BBC Sport about the team's approach for the 2025–26 season.

"I don't think we can make excuses," Gabriel stated. "We gave our all over the past three years. I believe we experienced some unfortunate moments, but we all have faith that we can capture major trophies."

The Gunners' previous season was affected by numerous extended injuries to key players, including Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel himself. The defender sustained a hamstring problem in April, required surgery and is currently working to return for the new season's start.

"We're concentrating on following our manager's instructions, understanding our responsibilities and areas for improvement. I believe this year will be unique," the Brazilian stated.

The Gunners have made significant moves this summer to strengthen their roster, acquiring Martín Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The club is also pursuing Viktor Gyökeres for north London.

"I believe the new arrivals will provide tremendous assistance," Gabriel commented. "We aim to have elite players. To compete for championships, you need top-quality talent."

Arsenal aren't alone among English clubs in heavy summer spending, however. Current English champions Liverpool, alongside Man City and Chelsea, have recruited world-class players that will intensify the Premier League title race beyond previous seasons.

Despite this, Gabriel maintains confidence in Arsenal's capacity to overcome their strong rivals, beginning with their season opener against Manchester United.

"I'm here to capture major titles and I truly believe this season will be different. We've allowed several championships to escape our grasp lately," Gabriel declared.

Arteta's squad lost the 2023–24 Premier League title by just two points. The previous year, they came within five points of English success, losing to Man City on both occasions. Most recently, the Reds secured the English championship after completing the 2024–25 season 10 points clear of Arsenal.

"We came close to victory but I think this year will be different. I have tremendous belief in that."
