Gianluigi Donnarumma Shocks PSG Fans with Emotional Exit Announcement

Gianluigi Donnarumma announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain with an emotional statement directed at his colleagues, supporters and the individual who "determined" his time at the club had come to an end.

The Italian goalkeeper has been the subject of transfer rumors throughout the summer period. Although he publicly expressed his wish to remain at PSG, discussions regarding a contract renewal were suspended due to disagreements over revised wage terms.

Rather than resuming negotiations or permitting the 26-year-old to depart as a free agent when his existing contract concludes next summer, the club acquired Lille's goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as their primary choice.

Currently, merely three months following Donnarumma's contribution to PSG's remarkable quadruple achievement that included the Parisians' inaugural Champions League triumph, the keeper is departing the French capital, and according to his goodbye statement shared on social platforms, not voluntarily.

"To the wonderful Paris supporters, from my initial day of arrival, I dedicated everything—both on the field and beyond—to secure my position and protect Paris Saint-Germain's goal," Donnarumma expressed.

"Regrettably, somebody has determined that I cannot remain part of the squad and contribute to the team's achievements. I feel let down and saddened."

This heartfelt statement follows PSG manager Luis Enrique's decision to exclude Donnarumma from his roster for the club's UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, stating "Donnarumma is excluded from the squad as this is my personal choice. I take full responsibility."

"I wish to have the chance to meet the supporters at the Parc des Princes face-to-face once more and bid farewell properly," Donnarumma added. "Should that not occur, I want you to understand that your encouragement and love are invaluable to me, and I will always remember it.

"I will treasure the memories of all the feelings, the incredible evenings, and of you, who made me feel welcomed."

The Italy national team player signed with PSG in July 2021 and has subsequently featured in 161 matches for the French club, securing 10 titles during his tenure. Donnarumma was recently shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy following his outstanding 2024–25 campaign as goalkeeper.

"To my fellow players—my chosen family—I appreciate every struggle, every moment of joy, every experience we encountered together. You will forever remain my brothers.

"Representing this organization and residing in this metropolis has been a tremendous privilege. Thank you, Paris," Donnarumma concluded.

The goalkeeper's future destination remains unclear, although he has been connected with Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter.
