Nearly a third of this year's 25 Golden Boy nominees for the finest U-21 male player in the world currently compete in the Premier League.
While Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all feature flourishing young talents, it is the analytics-focused pair of Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion who account for four of the nominees between them.
Outside the Premier League, Barcelona boast an unmatched three nominees within their squad—though Lamine Yamal is not among them. While the World Cup winner's attention will be directed toward the senior version of this accolade, the Ballon d'Or, his teammate and fellow Spaniard Pau Cubarsí is considered the frontrunner to take home the younger player's equivalent at the ceremony in November.
2026 Golden Boy Nominees

The top 20 in the Golden Boy award are determined by the organizer's partner Transfermarkt. The football statistics platform has continuously refined a ranking of the world's finest players over the preceding 12 months through a data-driven approach to produce a shortlist.
The final assessment was conducted at the beginning of October and featured a host of compelling young talents. Stuttgart's Finn Jeltsch, a perennial subject of transfer speculation, is joined by fellow headline-grabbers Endrick, Junior Kroupi and Jon Martín.
The World Cup elevated the visibility of several nominees. Kerim Alajbegović's remarkable run to the knockout stages with Bosnia and Herzegovina certainly helped his cause, while Ivorian Yan Diomande and Moroccan talent Ayyoub Bouaddi both impressed throughout the summer. Each of them also secured high-profile moves to top European clubs, which arguably represents a more concrete reward than the Golden Boy trophy itself.
Gianluca Prestianni is arguably the most fascinating nominee on the list. The Benfica forward attracted worldwide attention following allegations that he racially abused Vinícius Júnior during a Champions League match against Real Madrid. Prestianni's defense, which UEFA ultimately accepted, was that he had in fact directed a homophobic slur rather than a racial one.
Wild Cards
In addition to the top 20, five extra spots are granted to "wild cards" chosen by an undisclosed panel to round out the full list of nominees.
How Voting Works

This award, originally established by Italian publication Tuttosport, has evolved through numerous formats over the years. The current format mirrors a similar structure to the Ballon d'Or, with voting rights handed to journalists rather than fans.
A total of 50 reporters from across Europe will cast their votes to determine who claims the creatively titled "Absolute Best award."
A separate accolade decided by public online voting, known as the Golden Boy Fan Web Award, also exists. Notably, Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis is the reigning holder of a prize previously won by the likes of Kenan Yıldız and Jude Bellingham.
