Gonzalo Garcia Breaks Silence on His Frustrating Real Madrid Bench Stint
Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García maintains he made the correct choice in extending his contract with the club, even though he has seen limited playing time at the beginning of the 2025–26 campaign.
García secured his spot in Xabi Alonso's senior squad following an impressive Club World Cup performance, where he capitalized on Kylian Mbappé's injury absence and emerged as the competition's leading goalscorer.
"Remaining at Real Madrid has always been my sole choice. Being part of the first team represents a dream for me. At this moment, I feel satisfied and pleased with my decision," García shared with MARCA.
Before the Club World Cup, García had only made six first-team appearances for Madrid without finding the net, but his summer breakthrough led to a contract extension with Los Blancos that keeps him at the club until 2030.
García: First Team Membership is a Dream Come True

Nevertheless, that momentum hasn't carried over into the new 2025–26 season, as Mbappe's return to peak fitness and his deployment as the main striker has restricted García to merely 101 minutes of playing time without any goals or assists across all competitions.
"We're discussing the world's premier club, so the competition will be intense because the globe's finest players are always present here. However, having progressed through the academy system for numerous years and being a lifelong Real Madrid supporter, participating in the first team truly fulfills a dream, and I have zero regrets," he continued.
García isn't alone among Madrid's strikers in facing limited minutes and struggling with form currently, as Brazilian prospect Endrick is also awaiting his breakthrough moment this season.
Given Mbappe's exceptional performance level, it will be challenging for Alonso to create opportunities for his emerging attackers.
