Wrexham have announced that Humphrey Ker will be departing from the club's board and his position as a trustee of the Wrexham AFC Foundation following an official five-year tenure with the club.
Ker was instrumental in Wrexham's extraordinary transformation under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds and featured prominently in the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series. It was the 43-year-old who initially sparked Mac's interest in soccer by persuading him to watch the Sunderland 'Til I Die documentary, which inspired him to purchase his own club and enlist Reynolds as a partner.
The British actor was subsequently tasked with drawing up a shortlist of potential clubs to acquire, with Wrexham included, and served as Mac and Reynolds's representative on the ground throughout the entire takeover process.
Ker became an enormously beloved figure among Red Dragons fans, not only helping persuade the club to sign iconic striker Paul Mullin, but also through his community involvement, which included completing the Manchester Marathon to raise funds for the Wrexham Miners Project.
Why Humphrey Ker Is Leaving Wrexham
Ker was central to the early stages of Wrexham's ownership journey, though his involvement diminished as the club progressed through the football pyramid.
Despite being closely associated with North Wales, he continues to reside in Los Angeles, California, alongside his wife, Megan Ganz. He will now shift his focus toward spending more quality time with his family and pursuing his comedy career, though he has cemented his place as a defining figure in Wrexham's storied history and the person who helped make the Hollywood era a reality.
"Working for and representing Wrexham AFC and the wider town has been the greatest honor of my life," he said in an official club statement. "I am proud of the part I have played in the Club's remarkable journey, both on and off the field.
"The way the Club has evolved and is now structured has made it progressively harder for me to make a positive contribution, so, sad as I am to be leaving, I now feel watching from a distance is the right thing for me.
"I will always be a fan and wish the Club, the community and supporters every success. To everyone who has made me feel so welcome, thank you from the bottom of my heart."
In a joint statement, co-owners McElhenney and Reynolds expressed their gratitude to Ker for his immense contribution to the club.
"Humphrey has been a key piece of the Wrexham story from day one and his kindness, humor and height will be missed but never forgotten."
